Show notes 208
🕑 Added 2024-04-28 17:01:00 +0000 UTCRight then, what’s going on in the show notes this week? Well, in pictures we start with a slightly sweaty and over-excited Richard (and a Blue Steel-faced Jason Barlow) posing with Pet Shop Boys. Then we have Jonny’s lavish JDM Nissan Bluebird Sylphy nail care kit, an actual Nissan Bluebird Sylphy, and the cover for ridiculous Steven Seagal’s ridiculous first album. In other news we have the Cobus 3000 airside bus that Jonny finds quite sporty, a classic Traaaaaansit Dormobile, the slightly weird grille of the Alfa Milano that’s now called the Junior, and the Alfa Tonale and mk4 Polo looking like their tracks aren’t quite wide enough for the mid-section of their bodies. Finally, two of Jonny’s favourite car colours, Alfa Romeo Montreal Green and that Audi green which is actually called Sonoma rather than, as Jonny said on the podcast, Sumatra. Now some links…

is this where i come clean and say the main reason i signed up to Patreon was to see the Nissan nail care kit (and to see if i needed one)

While we’re on Steven Seagal, if you haven’t seen this it’s well worth 26 minutes and 33 seconds of your life https://youtu.be/3aCMTpJx2cs
Richard Barry
You all have to listen to Seagal’s music. I didn’t think that guy could get weirder. He can and did. Jonny reading out lyrics to Strut is nothing compared to the man himself vibing out a Carribean accent. A truly gifted human OTSOT.

You did Top Gear He’s a stroker You sell us things We love it You bring us Spowahtaaaaaah We need it An Eagle Quest You bought it

That alfa green the touring is on the bucket list of cars to own 😍

What’s all this Patreon stuff then? Is it like OnlyFans???
Matthew Porritt
Speaking of greens....I feel like the green of the new-ish Peugeot 308 doesn't get enough appreciation.
Iain W
Sounds like a Jackie Stewart tribute act.
Oliver Dell
Now that Richard is besties with Neil and Chris, can you ask your mates to record a contrafactum of "Go West" with "Eagle Quest"? Along the lines of: Eagle quest, where the limos are long, Eagle quest, where we all belong, ... p.s. So pleasing to hear how happy meeting them made you feel :)
Mark Heeler
So happy for Richard meeting the PSB’s. Jealous but I appreciate how much that would have meant to him. Guest appearance on the pod one day ? Send them some of your compositions - I can see them having a chuckle !

Did the Pet Shop Boys previously own a ln Eagle Quest Limousine?
Brendan McAleer

Whenever I see a Hymer, I automatically think it says HYMEN.

Hey Mr Porter Catchup with TPSB ( Pet Shop Boys) while guests on 6Music with LaLa last week Thursday . They will also be picking their favourite tracks for a very special Desert Island Disco. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001y9bj

Oh. That's not the generation of Polo I thought you were talking about...

According to Range Rover nomenclature rules, Jonny's bungalow is clearly a House SPOWWWaaaaaaat.
Ross Hetherington
Haha Richard looks like a competition winner.
Gordon Segar
This is going to upset Jonny but Kate Beckinsale doesn't drive, so probably doesn't have much interest in cars. Then again neither does Noel Gallagher but he still owned a rare Jaguar MKII drop head conversion, so you never know.
Andy N
Happy Birthday Richard, a sweet sweet guy. Lovely.
Simon Gauci
Jason Barlow has morphed into Max Zorin off of A View to a Kill, an’ all that.

So glad Richard got to meet his idols. Apart from Messrs Smith and Sniff whenever I have met someone of any level of fame they have been absolute twats of the highest degree. The worst was meeting Bobby LaBonte a NASCAR driver of whom my Dad was a great fan. When I got to meet him in 2014 he was so disinterested in giving me an autograph or my story I was physically shaking. It was an autograph sessions and I wasn't holding up a line or anything so there was no reason for him being like that. Jacques Villeneuve was also pretty twatty. Nice to hear that some real celebrities haven't got their heads too far up theirs....
Smith and Sniff
This is incredible work!
Stephen Voss
It's really cool to hear someone you would like to meet, fanboy over someone they would like to meet that went well.

LTD Update… In my pursuit of the truth with regard to wrong key being featured on the License to Drive poster I reached out to the director of the film, Mr Gregg Beeman, to see if he could help. After a couple of days I received the following response “I have no idea FOX marketing was in charge of the poster. Sounds like a 1988 photoshop mistake. “ And so Fox marketing is my next port of call… another quest continues..
Peter Heamon
Yup, my first thought too!

Two things 1) Green cars- Hyundai’s Mangrive Green, as on my wife’s Bayon, is quite pleasant and also I find it inexplicably amusing that the tag on the keys from the dealer seems to call it Mongrove Green. 2) The American military thing is called a Cadence (the one in Full Metal Jacket obviously being the best version)
Craig Mathieson
Good to see you with the Pet Shop Boys and Christopher Walken
Stuart Richards
Nothing brings me more joy than my favourite car based podcast crossing over with my favourite duo based pop group
Noel Huggett
They do say never meet your hero's, but here we can see the exception, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe must be made up, I can see a song being formed as we speak
Dandydandan
I’m genuinely delighted for you to have met your heroes Richard. I once got very drunk with Jimmy Anderson and he was as great a guy as you could have hoped.

When is "barnfinds with bekensale" starting?

A quick play with Google lens translates most of the nail care set instructions. Most disturbing is the reusable ear cleaner! Translation: “Ear oyster - Clean inside your ears.”

Can we please get Jack Spowart, Scottish Illustrator, to make an illustration of the Eagle Quest? https://www.jackspowart.com No really, that is his name.

Segal's band is called "Thunderbox" which quite frankly is where all his recorded output should go. The second album features such "hits" (rearrange the letters for a more accurate description) as "Talk to my ass". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mojo_Priest
Steve Morton
I will need a French version of 'On that side of things' something like 'De ce côté-là des choses' !!

Accept no imitations.

Barlow looks very much like Christopher Walken
Andy Pinchock
That personal care set looks amazing!
Andy Hicks
Looks like you've won a competition on Going Live to meet the Pet Shop Boys.... In all honesty, I'm quite jealous of you

Richard has when your mum asks 8 year old you to pose for a nice photo vibes.
