Speaking of inappropriate mountain clothing. The first time I climbed Ben Lomond, I was overtaken by a chav (ned to us Scottish people), wearing a tracksuit and white Adidas trainers, carrying a bottle of Buckfast under his arm. Given that it's only 20 minutes from Glasgow and therefore easily accessible, I wasn't surprised to see that.

Nick Davies

Hmmm. "Tyre name or Apprentice Team name" would be an entertaining diversion

keith hilton

I see your Eagle Quest and raise you a couple of doors. There's a Vectra based Eagle Statesmen with SIX DOORS! It's been parked up for weeks. It has the bonnet eagle and everything.

Ben Payne

I read an article from "the drive" titled "Aston Martin’s ‘Piss-Off Factor’ Is Here to Save Us From Touchscreen Hell" about how Aston Martin have a "piss-off factor" for assessing whether interior controls annoy the user, I like their thinking.

I don't get why people would complain about EV topics. Much like Jonny mentioned on the Intercooler interview people claiming they would rather die than drive an EV is extremely odd to me. I think we have bigger problems (take it from someone who has friends and relatives literally fighting on both sides of 2 conflicts currently) than what 4 wheels you stuck under your bum. Both Jonny and Richard have maintained (in my opinion) a very balanced view on the topic and offer real-world advice on experiences that mirror most people's. I actually got one guy who was extremely critical of EVs to sit down with me and basically it came down to he felt offended and being labeled a "dinosaur" for his love of classic cars (he has an original Triumph Herald from new). He (in my view rightly) also pointed out that EVs are being oft touted as the end all be all of climate saving technology and that simply isn't the case either. While there still is a huge amount of FUD (fear uncertainty and doubt) about EVs they are not perfect and there are still many applications they simply aren't a good fit for. For example my wife's uncle is a veterinary specialist and he could get a call at 3 AM to go 150 KM to save a cow that is calving and having trouble. There are lives and money at stake and he simply can't risk his car not being to make the trip because it is still charging. I personally am fascinated by all tech and engineering and I get as excited about software hacking an EV as I do about adding a turbo to a Wankel engine. That is one of the many reasons I love this podcast because there is a chance in one episode they might cover those (as well as talk about fizzy yogurt, piss vistas and collision causing canines...) Be seeing you. :-)

Guys! Listen! The 2 Corys didn't get the 308 right away. They wrecked a few Metros first.

Christophe D.

Furio was a character on the Sopranos!

Jamie W

Jonny wasn’t happy that we were running a set of Pirelli Carver on our AX on the weekend. She’s also a Milano based couture designer ;)

Rick Bean

3 ton maritime Turbo is the ultimate John peel band name.

Matt Tester

I've had to listen to the outro song a few times because the guitar is perfect. It keeps making me want to listen to 'It's A Mistake' by Men At Work though because the guitar solo at the end of that song is similar.

George Wade

Triangle tyres have always made me chuckle. Also Camac's are a brilliant 200,000 miles tyre. Barely worn lol.

Adam

The buyer has to pay a buyers fee with Collecting cars so that may have held the price down a bit?

Adam

I was going to Google search that to fact check you… then thought better of it 🤣

Dave Dorson

Also used to drink in a pub in Cottesmore.. nice chap by all accounts.

Dave Dorson

The Firestone Wide-O-vals always made me snigger on that side of things.. but I do have similar humour to a 13 year old boy. If you want to chuck a con-bomb in my slightly baggy l322 for content you're welcome to.

Matt Stanford

Destroyed three Pirellis in one hit on a stone (not gravel) road out the back of Canberra over summer. Went with what the tyre shop I struggled to suggested. Now I have Yokohama FLEVA. FLEVA FLEVA FLEVA!

Ade Brannan

That was fascinating about the interface design of games and cars. Mental that the same care isn't taken. I guess it's far easier to see the sucess and failure in apps though, whereas the likes of cars just have people putting up with shortcomings.

Rich long

We used to sell them at my work used to make me chuckle every time I had to say the name when selling them 😂 🤣

BoringCarDriver

I used to think it was just a lazy, slightly racist name people used to describe cheap Chinese tyres, didn’t realise it was an actual brand.

Rich long

There’s a tire called a Ling Long 🤣😂

Rich long

Listened to you guys for years one of the best podcasts in my eyes. finally become a PATREON You guys make me chuckle!! and yes I do own a Rover 45 in a skirt!! david marden

All of us patrions should pass the hat and buy the damn Eagle Quest for them.

George Kinghorn

Just rented License to Drive on Amazon as my Easter Monday treat - it had better be good!

Matthew Bindon

Dear Richard and Johnny, I am in need of your help. I listen to the ‘pod’ whilst out walking and I am constantly getting strange looks as I am laughing like a drain whilst wandering about with you in my ears. In order to contextualise my laugh filled meanderings for local residents please could you add a T shirt to the line up that simply states “I’m not insane I’m listening to Smith and Sniff”. Thank you for your support with this matter. Matt

Thinfourth

The Titan went to scrap many years ago

Robin White

According to marine traffic there is a Grand Uranus (vehicle transporter) and Ever Uranus

Robin White

You know what that outro needs. more cowbell (SNL)

Trevor Paul

Growing up in Berkshire and Hampshire during the 80’s “Corey” was slang for a man’s appendage.

Nathan Henstock

There is a coach company called "cumbum travels" (yes with an S)

Thinfourth

I want to see a video featuring Robin absolutely slating a car infotainment screen Johnny make it happen

Thinfourth

On the subject of rude names I must inform you fine gents of the fine vessels that used to grace the seven seas There was a shipping company called Titan and they used to name their ships after celestial bodies There was the Titan Saturn Titan Neptune and Titan Uranus

Dave Long

In the US, we have access to Cosmo Tires. Some of their offerings include El Jefe, Kat Energy, Mud Kicker, and Stray Kats I - IV. Their ultra high performance tire, available up to a Y speed rating, is of course the Mucho Macho.

John Hammond

Mighty Woosung Dark Horse, I had some on a MK1 Mondeo around 2002

Brendan McAleer

The trail just outside of my backyard leads to the network that runs up all the north shore mountains, which are for the most part several hundred metres taller than Ben Nevis. You would not believe how often people have to get rescued off of them because they've gone out hiking in flip-flops. Happens all summer long. Also, most of the peaks have caches of scotch hidden on them.

Vincent McDonnell

And waiting for Eagle Quest purchase update

Ed Nicholson

Those are actually one of the more well kmown lower tier Asian tires, at least here in Canada anyway.

Ronnie Whelan

I bought a car shod with Triangle tyres. A curious name for a shape famously devoid of angles.

Ronnie Whelan

Tomorrow, it says in the description.

Nick Muir

Just on the subject of unusual company names on vans, the last serious accident I didn't quite have was laughing at a van marked 'BJ Champion, Basingstoke'. The company still exists but the founder Barry Champion seems to have dropped the idle initial of late. A shame.

Andrew Barnes

No show notes 🤔

Andrew Armstrong

Yes, I thought I little cheap but didn't have time to check.

Martin Rawlings

Had an xr3i in 2004 on dark horse tyres, bad, really bad

Martin Rawlings

Well there is a parallel in 80s movies/Ferrari/BL crossover in that the Ferrari replica used in Ferris Bueller's day off was based on a mgb with a Mustang V8 so maybe that had a BL key as well?

Matt Tester

I noticed today that there's a Qashqai not 5 minutes from my house with black gaff all over the back, hadn't seen it before. Spooky.

Igor Szalajko

Tyre it's called Dębica from Polish Town in which is produced by Goodyear. It's biggest Goodyear factory in Europe making 15 mln tyres a year.

Giant Iain

It seemed to go for a low price compared to similar ones on Autotrader?

Andrew Armstrong

Range Rover going, going...

Tim Organo

I think my dad has an old LP of theirs somewhere

Simon Turner

Dull pedantry alert - Bruce Dickinson is in Iron Maiden, not Marillion...

John Hammond

Jonckheere were a Belgian coach builder, the J is pronounced as a Y so they are known by coach drivers as "Yonks". They were swallowed up in 2010 by VDL, and who are the parent company of Bova. The Alizee was part of a long running design by Dutch coach builders VanHool, who by the time of the next podcast will probably be declared bankrupt. The Bova Futura was an integral design and had a very decent production run with only mild tweaking to the design. I've never managed to drive one but the local operator I sometimes drive for has a couple mothballed which come out for Glastonbury festival shuttles each year.

John Hammond

On the tyre side of things, Furio was a Citroen trim level. I had a ZX 'Furio'. My vintage bus sits on 'Double Coin' tyres, I'm sure Double Coin is a rapper...

Ed Nicholson

When I bought a budget X300 Jag XJR many years back, it had “Delinte Thunder” rubber on it. They were as awful as you might expect.

Michael Lawrence

Looks like we were at the Beggars Roost section spectating and left just a little too early! Great event though, looking forward to the video Jonny!
