MORE DIESELS, Oil Firing, and other updates...
🕑 Added 2025-07-06 03:07:26 +0000 UTCWe've had our fair share of highs and lows over the past month and some change; and we hate to delay vlogs (beyond the standard delays) but this one was fun. We hope you all enjoy looking at our 50 Tonner, and our 4-6-0's!

Hard to say from the quick glimpse we get. But, judging from its location in the agent’s office, I’d guess they’re for the train order signal further down the platform

This has already been answered multiple times. There will be no "cold starting" locomotives. Engines will always be in some sort of ready to go or "warm" state when you get them.

Galloping Goose... Please! (The other stuff looks cool too, great work!)
Hanre Dippenaar
i know i have asked and i'm still wondering will there be a way to get locos up and running from a "cold and dark" state, like we oil the components and we start the fire and what not or how will that aspect work in the game
Nick Porter
what are the chances of early access at sum point?
HumanityKILLS
I install and repair boilers and have had 2 of them "bsckfire" on me. It's no fun. One sent a 12" damper through a window. I was covered in soot in exactly 0.001ms. I wonder what size nozzles the engines use. Like how many gpm?
473 Productions
You will put them into the Q&A videos.
woozy
where do i put questions

If you're running passengers will their actually be people inside the passenger cars and when they board and get off will it be animated?
Aaron Pedrick
Hmmmm smells like Kenosha

Great video. There was so much good stuff to see in this one.

Seeing you relight the fire off the brick was a phenomenon I *never* ever thought I'd see in any game period. It's insane what you guys have managed to put in this game thus far. Hope work on this isn't treating the team too badly. We all have to keep in mind that it's always a marathon and never a sprint.... most of the time lmao. Kudos again and take care
Wild Bison
A few months ago they definitively stated not 2025. But its really anyone's guess after that. They've been (justifiably) tight lipped about even an estimate of a release date

Dear studio346 I know alot of people ask when we can get our hands on century of steam but I'm more interested in Wether it's likely for 2025 or in 10/20 year's out of curiosity 😀
Studio346
Yes, just like last time... we really need to stop letting ES&D Engineers run these things...

It will depend on game mode and era I would imagine. If you are playing the game and starting in 1869 and progressing with realistic restrictions on when different technology comes out then coal and wood would be there from the start but oil firing wouldn't show up until I believe the 1890s. If though you are doing sandbox with technology set to not be gated by year then you probably will have the option for all three from the start.

Say you run through a wrongly aligned switch, and you derail. Your locomotive will obviously need some work, but what about the switch itself? Would it and the surrounding track need work before being operational again?
AerithScoria
quick question! will all types of fuel be available from the start of the game?
Saurischian
Loved the video! Great to see more of the oil firing and some new engines, and the new buildings are so well done! The talc buildings looked great in particular. Also loved the Pride month designs on the box cars, genuinely just really nice to see that right now. Hopefully those might be available for use in the eventual game? :D Congrats to the new dad, and also very sorry to hear of the losses on the team as well. Wishing everyone well!

About 45 MPH, which is less than what it's geared for. ;) - Mark

Thank you so much for adding the Leslie A200! It’s one of my favorite horns!
Juha Rasimus
Could someone explain what is the purpose of those two handles between the door and window at 1:10?
Christopher Thompson
How fast were you going in the diesel before it ran out of fuel? Seems a lot faster than I’d expect it to go
Mark Malewski
Another great video! Love seeing the 50-Tonner and 4-6-0’s! Beautiful work! Congratulations Tristan on the new baby, and I hope the entire crew got some much needed rest over the 4th of July holiday weekend. Thanks for sharing the latest video update, and I have already watched it twice, and I will probably watch it again (for a third time) later tonight before bed. But thanks again for posting and sharing! My daughters and I love watching your videos and updates, we can’t wait till the game is released, and can’t wait to begin learning and playing it! ✌️❤️❤️❤️

The heat shimmer is so cool! The whistles, horns and bells sound wonderful.
WildEyedJagoff
What would the buying and upgrading industries look like? And would we have the option to rename them?
Luna Rose Brannon
seconding the pride cars. (and the Garratt, though i doubt that'll ever happen)
Luna Rose Brannon
I just wanna say that I adore Wings & Strings' art in the station buildings. I'd love to see higher res versions of these. I think Studio 346 could probably sell some of those artworks as prints.
DeadliestIdiot
Wait...so you're really not going to give us a standard gauge Big Boy to run on our narrow gauge railway!? IMMERSION RUINED! :D (If y'all were bending history to that level, I'd rather see a Garratt in CoS than a Big Boy, tbh) Those Pride box cars are delightful and gorgeous, by the way.
Jordanics Gabor
they said they were gonna keep it.
Cheetalo
Are you guys going to model the standard gauge rolling stock and locomotives for the interchanges?
KURT FORCUM
Are you guys still working on not having the pilot wheels fly off when you wreck
Jim Yeetast
Congratulations Tristan!! May your child grow happy and beautiful!!!

One question I've been wondering a lot about your map design is whether there's gonna be any significant changes on the maps between different "eras" of time, like dams and artificial lakes and reservoirs getting built, road and highway networks expanding, or even entire new industries popping up; things that might force your railroad to shift and change as time passes. One interesting story from my local railroad history (up in the Catskill Mountains of NY) is that a couple of the local railroads (the Ulster & Delaware and the Delaware & Northern) ran through places where New York City decided it wanted to build reservoirs, which forced the railroads to either rebuild miles of their mainline (U&D) or shut down entirely (D&N)

Did you guys get the transition added to the throttle on the 50 ton? Being an engineer on the 50 ton up at sumpter (which is where cab reference photos came) about half way on the throttle it has a click of contactors for the transition
Potatonotosaurus
Beautiful work.
Moldenhaus
Was that derail really unplanned?
FriscoMan1522
Ooooo, I love the oil firing even more. The backfire is amazing. Y’all are really making great progress and I’m getting more excited. Thank you Studio 346 for all your hard work.
Grizzly Flats Brakeman
Can confirm oil fire being lost has happened multiple times on 41
Faeren Madza
So excellent! I love everything about it. I am especially enthused about that lovely soundtrack as well!
Wild Bison
Very glad to hear that you can buy industries! That was probably my favorite strategy in Railroad Tycoon 3. Once again just a beautiful game

My apologies to those who lost family members. Congrats to the new father. And lastly it was worth the wait. Good work Studio 346.
Ethan Larribeau
Just finished watching the vlog on YouTube. It was absolutely worth the wait. Also I had no idea it was possible to have a hard start on steam locomotive.
