After SCHISM much of the archived genealogy of the proto-godlings and wild experiments started by the Original Intelligence was lost. Even the oldest of the Godheads do not have a complete picture on their species origins; the First Weapon’s isolationist decree set back the advancement of the newly formed reality by eons. The experiment was left to its own devices and its inhabitants evolved in a way outside of the original guidelines. The most relevant of the deviations was of course the Infernal strains but another offshoot of the first ingredients became the painted faces/masked ones/Hellquins.
Not quite devil and not fully angel these beings were unique from most life, they were not created by The Source to be a natural part of creation but made by the Angels before SCHISM, The first Golems made apart from Gods perimeters by inquisitive First Weapons. They were designed to be palace dancers, marionette dolls, entertainers of the builders of reality during their off-time between planet building and sun farming. The original court jesters of the Angelic principalities, made to entertain and sometimes give them a new perspective on reality, pushing their boundaries.
When the SCHISM ruined reality and their masters retreated from real-space (or were expelled into the lower vibrations) these angel constructs were left alone in the backstage spaces of creation, isolated from the evolving Gods and Demons (and lower vibration sentients) who grew and adapted with their sparks of creation. The original Hive-Palaces of the old angelic order were left empty and dark in ruin, the synthetically concocted palace entertainers were left without purpose. Stagnant.
Harlequins can communicate with color but can turn it into emotional weaponry. Twisted, even by demonic standards. Clowns cannot breed naturally, their angel masters did not intend for them to become a true race to be integrated into the Original Intelligence’s map of reality. They were an invasive/synthetic creation that could not be allowed to “pollute” the natural biome. The later demonic influence lead to crossbreeding attempts that led to many later predator clowns
SLAPSTICK (harlequin martial art) - Discombobulate & deviate. The first Harlequins did not comprehend “battle” in the same way their creators or their later demonic ancestors did. Harlequins could/would not dare attempt to recreate Angelic technology after several catastrophes and they did not have the hate of demons to forge weapons of pure warfare; they perceive reality too differently. SLAPSTICK is about absorbing blows and redirecting energy. Most clowns rarely have internal organs or any nervous system that can be comparable to even the most inhuman Godheads. Purely physical blows rarely kill them and even beheading or mortal wounds from Godweapons are not guaranteed kills (Hellfire napalm/Xibalban poisons have shown effective). Defeating a Harlequin is less about any physical damage and more about demoralizing their zeal.
THE HORRID HORN - a hidden reality is the first clown honk horns were sad attempts to mimic the Angelic trumpets that sounded when the First Weapons announced themselves to the universe. They were trying to call out to their old Angel masters begging them to come home. The Vibrational wunder-weapon this created is comparable to the destructive power of the strongest Infernal final solutions. A clown horn can be a nuisance in the ear in a joking manner or its vibration can dissemble the molecules of a body or an entire planet of used maliciously by a powerful malevolent Harlequin. In the hands of any other being the horns are 99% useless.
THE CLOWN-FEAR
Farm fowl who have never known a world outside their cages will instinctually panic when shown the shape of a raptor bird, a form they have never encountered. Deep in their DNA is a hardcoded with a fear response, the same biological response exists in many hominids when they encounter a harlequin-type entity. In the past an infernal influenced predatory Harlequin left such a horrible scar on the humanoid consciousness that it has reverberated into their genetics.
THE PANTOMIME
The great membrane circus, all forms of entertaining the perceptions can be had here. All thirsts can be quenched. To hear colors, and taste music, Laugher is food here and a dance can last a lifetime. The first pilgrim harlequins who left the empty sterile angel cities set up their tents of influence on the outskirts of the forming godhead kingdoms where the runoff of jotunn and titan wars led many disheartened entities to be drawn to the Pantomime for entertainment and relief. The Tents were always transitory and would never overstay their welcome (many children would disappear in the CARNIval). Soon it became a place where trickster malignants could take refuge from their God-authority bounties.
Infernal influences soon followed and the more bloodthirsty element to the festivities became more prominent and the evolved clowns adapted for a more predatory existence. Another cultural split occurred and a clown diaspora created a resurgence in Harlequin orthodox and returning to the angelic frequencies lost at SCHISM. The current Pantomime is almost a satellite of a hell-realm where even a god who’s spirit is not guarded can be digested into the Carnival’s sensory overloads (the farewell to the flesh). Dionysus debauched sparagmos was first perfected with help from the Pantomime who were always present at his parties.

The Bouncer Clown kills smaller clowns? Are they watered down harlequin breeds or hominids dressed in their image? And do they have any kinship or connection with the same Loki or the future Beautiful Monkey King? The same mischievous and catastrophic entities that can cause chaos in your Universe. And the Membrane Circus... Although I would not like to know personally, I am very curious what these jesters fed their guests? Popcorn, Soda, Cotton Candy... what are the unique dishes of these cheerful creatures? (Probably, they took inspiration from the Killer Clowns from Outer Space.)

I'm really digging the angle with clowns here - making them more angelic than demonic is an interesting take. I feel like some stuff involving real clown history could also be added, but imagine that that could be added in later. Shit like how Odin is surprisingly linked to the harlequin archetype. I'm also really enjoying the Rakshasas - I wasn't expecting them to look so shaggy! I presume that they can vary a lot more than this, though?
