Oh my god Abe and Dave you sound so different! I think Paul Verhoeven has a problem with satire in that most audiences aren’t refined enough to pick up on it. The people he mocks love his work, not just Troopers but with RoboCop and Total Recall as well. Poe’s Law should’ve been called Verhoeven’s Law.

Haven't listened yet, but after having recently read the book (several years after watching the movie) I totally understand the way the movie portrayed the story. I basically rage read that dreadful philosophical rant in a day hoping and praying for some sort of payoff that never came at the end. I have no idea how that book is considered a sci-fi classic except amongst Nazis and 13-year-old white boys from the 80's fantasizing about exo-suits before they were cool.
