the first few seasons of Discovery does start ‘before’ ToS, but it eventually surpasses that (no spoilers). its not a perfect show, but i definitely recommend Discovery.

I quit less than 2 weeks ago and am dealing with withdrawal symptoms which I didn't even know was a thing! Hearing y'alls low energy addiction laments and intents helped immensely. I do think the holodeck is the inevitable end of history. Like if you look at 40 years of video game development from Pong to Red Dead 2 and then you add 1,000 years... it seems like video game that perfectly simulates real life and you just live in that your whole life is the future. Like once everyone is in the holo deck where theres no scarcity, no disease, all violence is simulated and not real why would you not just do that forever? Why try to explore space when you can just be a space wizard with faster than life travel and interesting stories in the entirely realistic video game? This is why I think we will never encounter aliens because once you advance sufficiently to have this technology you just stay in the simulation forever. Why wouldnt you?

I really enjoyed the loose horseshit up top. I also quit drinking a while back and am still working on improving myself in other ways, very similar to what you guys said you're going through. I wouldn't mind another tales from the pit on substance abuse, or like a "where are they now" kind of thing about Michael or David or any past guest's story. On that note, I also really enjoy every episode with Vanessa Guerrero, I think you asked about that a while back.
