Episode 2 of our new deep-dive podcast that chronicles the films of Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson! This time the sons take a look at Wes Anderson’s buddy comedy debut Bottle Rocket which follows two bumbling criminals as they make their way through a “70 year plan” of heists. Our hosts look at the story structure, character archetypes, visual aesthetic of the film as well as compare it to Paul Thomas Anderson’s debut, Hard Eight. Abe doesn’t like it, surprising no one!

I've had a difficult time keeping track of all the things in the Small Bean universe. I was reminded in this episode of the Monday movie nights on discord. ELIA5, are these only available at time of streaming? Is there a place where start times and the title of the next movie being streamed is posted? I couldn't find posts about discord movie night in a brief patreon search. Thanks for any help!

I gotta say describing a film trying to make you feel emotions with musical choices as gaslighting is pretty ridiculous. I enjoy everything you guys do but maybe I’m just not smart enough to get the criticisms. Cause I like you guys so much that I know it’s not bad faith criticism. But I guess I don’t get how so many criticisms of the movie seemed… to imply some sort of immorality? Like Wes Anderson’s style of filmmaking is morally objectionable is what it felt like was being said. But maybe it’s a level of film knowledge I just don’t have enough of to really appreciate it. But seriously I’m a patron so I love you guys. But I didn’t enjoy this one.
