I think that the biggest reason I was disappointed with the film when I watched it in theaters was that the first movie sets up an extremely clear premise for the sequel: “What happens to the constructed world when EVERYONE knows it’s a construct?” The first movie ends with a voiceover of Neo saying he’s going to break the world and let everyone break the rules like he does but in the second and third movies, that idea is just…gone. There’s still shmucks driving to work, grocery shopping, etc. It probably would have been a much more satisfying film if it was about exploring the disruption caused everyone suddenly having superpowers. Instead we get a mud orgy and some hard to follow shit about echoes and choice.
