This show goes over the short stories of Michael’s favorite speculative fiction author and notable curmudgeon Harlan Ellison. Each episode Michael pairs (read: forces a friend to read) a short story with a guest that it “applies especially to.” This episode it’s the short story “I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream” and the guest is George Heftler.

Like Heftler, I have an audiobook collection read by Ellison (The Voice From The Edge, Vol. 1), and it really is fantastic. Hearing Ellison read it, knowing which lines are sullen, which lines are baseline, and when to go full ham, really elevates the work imo. I wish more authors read their works, cos it’s just as good as the Douglas Adams audiobook of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe; Ford’s argument with the Golgafrinchans was the hardest I’ve ever laughed at an audiobook. I had to pull over on the highway. Anyway, this is a really good series.
