I was actually surprised Disco Elysium didn’t come up earlier. Hearing disparate inner voices that shade the events of the game in multiple ways? That’s the power of the sea, baby
John Ford
I appreciate everyone's responses! I understand there's an awkward overlap between critically and honestly reviewing a thing and the entertainment value of a unit of content. All I can do as a fan is put in my individual two cents on my subjective experience, take it or leave it. Wouldn't want anyone to have to force it.
John Reiman
Really wasn’t trying to do that and sorry it came off that way. It had a lot of stuff that I liked that we talk about (they have an AWESOME interpretation of Norse mythology). It’s just when, if you have the experience most of us had with the first game, this game was really disappointing for me.

Thanks for introducing me to Screamplay!!

We want to cover new games every year and you’ll notice those are the ones we go aggro on. This is why.

Not to pile on (HAHAHAHAHAHAH) but want to say - this is Swaim - that I urged us to cover this sight unseen just because I was such a huge fan of the first one, and had no inkling it had been taken over by a new creative team or would turn out to be bad. We try not to cover games we don't have something nice to say about, but when one comes down the chute it feels even weirder not to give our honest take.
Adam Ganser
Honestly I agree with you. Mike and I try hard to find people that want to argue for a game’s merits when we book them to guest for us. But also sometimes we have to book a guest to get them to play the game for us (usually when it’s a new release) and it creates the possibility that it might turn into this. While I stand by our conversation I just wanted you to know we heard you.
John Ford
I'm glad you did, that's your opinion, I did not.
James Crosslin
I enjoyed this episode so I’m not sure which part you’re talking about
John Ford
It's really not fun to listen to a pile-on

I like the premise, it's just a real shame about the execution. If the first game was basically Senua's breakthrough therapy sessions, the sequel could have been about life outside of therapy. Having a sort of found family is a good story on paper - Senua helps them work through their trauma, and they support her during bad days. But these new characters just have nothing going on, and I barely knew their names by the end. Very weird choice to have the traumatized characters you're helping not be in the main party.

Bummer that the sequel sucked. I'm catching up on my backlog for the sister pods and listening to Screamplay right now. Delightful insights as always gents.
