re: the convo of “are we doomed to be selfish like this forever” etc: I believe a huge thing people overlook is the fact that capitalism combined w christianity has taken a majority of the world by force (spreading cultural norms of individualism and us vs. them) but it was relatively recent and won’t necessarily last forever. Yes, it will take a series of massive revolutions to overthrow the people who have so much power and then establish more equitable systems, BUT the mass communication that continues to grow will make it A) more difficult suppress education, which leads to a larger amount of enlightened ppl, and B) easier for said ppl to plan and execute organized revolts. Humans are an incredibly social species, and we will always have our evolved traits of community and taking pleasure in other people’s happiness. We have overwhelming evidence of ancient humans taking great care of their disabled members. Caring about others is COOKED into our brains. Most of us also have some sort of spiritual inclination, even in this age where the Western world is disillusioned w religion because of all the havoc wreaked by Christianity. Who knows what kind of religions could pop up and flourish under a different system. We’re in a depressing era and there could be many more in our future, but humans are not doomed to the selfishness and isolation of our time.

Man, I can't get ADD meds even though I have two positive diagnoses from ADHD specialists. I think I have Resting Malingerer Face.

I coule go on a rant about how much I hated being considered an "essential worker" and seeing those stupid fucking banners that said "heroes work here", how since the pandemic I've become more introverted to the point where I get immediately uncomfortable when there's too many people around, but I want to say the moment that happens in the middle between you and Jessica was a nice reminder that good things can still happen even as sort of a result of this pandemic.

Your experience being in recovery and NOT being given opiates shocks me. I’ve been sober from alcohol for 3 years and opiates for about 8. I’ve had to threaten violence because hospitals just love trying to give me drugs.
