It's done!!!! I think.

Gunsen History

The reference for this is a paper known as 黒田長政宛鼻請取状について

Gunsen History

I am curious to see how it will turn out! I was reading about the Kuroda documents few days ago, as someone shared an episode of a fighter defeating a Ming high rank warrior in this battle. If it is of interest I can link it to you! The Kuroda chronicles mention that the vanguard defeated 150 to 160 enemy, while the nose counts comes from a separate document which was sent to a military metsuke, also in the Kuroda family documents. As a note, the vanguard in the accounts I am familiar with were ordered to not collect heads in the fight. The total noses sent to the metsuke by the Kuroda documents accounted for a total of 5000+ in between the 22nd of the eight month and the 29th of the nine month. The 85 were collected on the 7th of the ninth month (the dates are off due to the Lunar calendar). Given the official estimates and heads taken, would it be possible to claim they suffered similar casualties?

No unfortunately. Whether Ming cavalry actually brought iron shields is actually really dubious although cannot be dismissed altogether either.

Igloo

Do textual sources elaborate on the dimensions of the iron shields e.g. circular, pavise etc.?
