Someone asked her what Realm Town was even intended to be, and this was her response: "Immersive experience, virtual and reality. I recently listened to all of these videos about Evermore and in one of them you talked about folks working unpaid hours. I wonder if they were considered salaried? That could be a legal-ish way to NOT pay overtime. But I am skeptical that the actors would really fit the classification. I've been salaried and it was awful. Paradoxically, I've also been offered salaried positions where you CAN get overtime. I think you had to work over 44 hours though. You also pondered "serial entrepreneur"ship. It makes me think of those guys on Shark Tank. They find people with good ideas, offer them seed money, promise them mentorship, and then take all the profits. But instead of "founding" PayPal or McDonalds or Tesla, they "found" the local carwash, or the local McDonalds. It doesn't sound flashy to say "I leant some money to a guy and showed him how to apply for permits" so they made up "serial entrepreneur''. checked in on the RealmTown owners and... yeah I assume it's already been discussed here that they got sued by Evermore for trying to renegotiate the sale after discovering the mold, lack of permits, lack of train, etc. but their latest grift is weird mystical personality stuff. after the deal fell through they continued posting RealmTown and Hatch the Egg content for a little while but within the past month or two they rebranded the RealmTube youtube channel to "MysticPersonas™" (yes the ™ is part of it) and now they have largely removed themselves from the content. it's primarily faceless AI-narrated dramatic story time content now and their most recent video is about "the secret truth of JFK they tried to bury". on to the next grift I guess! My headphone battery ran out for my walk yesterday, so naturally I decided to use the time to expand on Jenny’s list of possible Evermore eateries (although who am I to think that I can come up with better theme park ideas than Jenny Nicholson?!?). Here is my brainstorming: Dragon eatery - Jenny suggested roasted spicy meat. I say go Asian-inspired for this one, with a variety of spicy Asian dishes (or at least the Americanized versions): spicy tuna roll sushi, Pad Thai, curry, etc. Dwarf eatery - As Jenny suggested, this is the bread-and-meat place. Meat pies, pot roast, mashed potatoes, charcuterie boards, etc. If the park ever opened earlier in the day, this location could also serve breakfast: sausage/egg/cheese biscuit sandwiches, giant cinnamon rolls, etc. Dessert eatery - Jenny suggested something unicorn-inspired that served desserts with lots of edible glitter; I agree. I picture this shop themed to be like Cloud Cuckoo Land in "The Lego Movie." It would have cookies, cupcakes, frozen yogurt, and cotton candy, all covered in plenty of sprinkles/whipped cream/edible glitter. It could also have bubble tea and fancy iced coffees. I struggled with a salad option. I think you would need a place for salads or lighter fare to balance out the other options, which are all pretty heavy, but I couldn’t figure out great theming. The best I could come up with (and I do welcome workshopping here) is a “Witches’ Garden” eatery. It could have salads and soups along with smoothies. They could do something similar to the Starcruiser in pretending that normal ingredients are actually magical herbs that have special powers--e.g. ‘That’s not red cabbage in your salad--it’s [name], which if consumed during the full moon will give you the ability to speak to fairies!’ The smoothies could be labeled as potions--the strawberry-blueberry smoothie is a love potion, the banana-peanut butter smoothie is a strength potion, the pineapple-mango smoothie gives you extra powerful hearing, etc. I’m going to go charge my headphones now.

Yeah, as a current academic everyone I know who has a PhD, including Americans, calls themselves Dr. Name when they use their title in most places, but probably write Name, PhD on their website, if they do at all. In my field every researcher either has or is getting a PhD, so people don't actually use the title much. Excessive insistence on title can be a sign it's phony or that the holder is a prick, depending on context. Also, in Europe a 3-year PhD with the prerequisite of a 1-2-year Master's (5 years total) is not uncommon at all, but in this case it absolutely sounds bunk.

Watching Bob's video on the Creature Workshop honestly made so many things in Jenny's OG Evermore video make more sense. I didn't realize that the dwarf prosthetics were single-use and they just never... paid the guy, who had already given them an extreme discount. A recent roommate of mine had a friend visit my house and claim they saw the stereotypical stock ghost (a woman in a long white Victorian dress and hat) in the entryway of my home. Problem is, that house was built in the 1950 post war boom, on land that had no houses before that, just agriculture (fruit, oranges, cows), my parents were the second owners who bought it in 1965, the entryway used to be the front porch until my dad enclosed it when I was four years old, and until 5 months ago, the house was continuously occupied my parents and then after they passed, my husband & I, with no Victorian people of any kind ever coming close to it. That’s not even the only time I’ve been around someone who claimed that they swore they saw or felt a ghostly presence of some kind in a place it absolutely could not have happened that way and/or ended up having a completely normal, mundane, not even remotely “spooky” explanation.

There have been massive changes to the company's structure that have caused a lot of problems (I'd recommend looking at the website and social media for the meow wolf workers collective for more information), and it's clear the current CEO and the people he's hired want to turn it into a quantity over quality kind of business. Beyond just me continuously pointing at the screen and recognizing the places and laughing at the silly "psychics" doing their commentary about energies, at one point they are walking through the park at night and feeling the "energy of sadness", and "the ghosts" are causing some of the outdoor lights to flicker... and I felt like I was channelling Brian from Paranormal Home Inspection; "that's no ghosts, that's just the exposed wires" On a more serious note: Those new owners, just from what I've seen here, they strike me as being absolutely steeped in this get-rich-quick "hustle culture" social media scam (or at least feeling scummy) stuff, but also genuinely like fantasy themes and stories (it's just too random that's the names and anecdotes they chose even before this). So they might actually wanna do a fantasy themed park, but also their entire mindset and approach can't "escape" this hustle culture, influencer content mill slop. Just my (somewhat) charitable interpretation.

There are scenarios in which people might be sharing that I consider harmless (like, friend group chat of a few people) and I didn't want to harsh people's vibe but I think more often they get shared in negative ways (very large discord, public forum, social media) and there's no way to really prevent it getting out of hand. Meanwhile patreon has added a lot of QOL features to the player that it didn't have in the past, and youtube's started running ads, so maybe it's time to retire the youtube mirrors

It’s strange when the number of YouTube views for rambles is much higher than the number of patrons. Obviously there are repeat views but it’s still strange. YouTube is superfluous at this point. Patreon has the same or higher video quality, it’s easier to use, it allows playing videos while using other apps, and there are no ads for anyone. The only thing it doesn’t allow is sharing the videos and that’s the thing nobody should be doing. If you abandoned YouTube for rambles I don’t think anyone would mind after they watched one on Patreon.

There was a problem with people adding them to publicly searchable playlists and making them not private anymore. The first couple times it was an innocent mistake and the people took it down upon request, but then someone did it maliciously so I had to make all new uploads and mark them For Kids which typically disables the feature :-/ it's still not foolproof and I ultimately might have to stop uploading on youtube altogether

It would be possible but would require an absurd amount of money. Improvisational skills are not the problem, the actual problem is decent working conditions for the performers. Even in places besides Evermore, improvements are never made to bad policies because ultimately there are always more people clamoring for the job. That’s how Sleep No More was able to keep churning through dancers despite awful conditions. But hiring enough staff to protect performers, paying a living wage + benefits, hiring enough performers to prevent everyone from burning out, building an environment conducive to staff safety, that all costs a looooot of money and is gonna cut into profits. Living at the park does already happen some places, cedar point has employee dorms and I assume they’re not the only ones but, again, that costs a lot of money.

@ted, I've been involved in the financial backend of a few of those, some of which appear to be very successful on the outside but in reality are barely treading water. The reason why is overhead. Aka rent. Residential rent hikes are appalling, but we often forget that small businesses get boned just as hard by exploitative landlords. For hybrid cafes (cafe being a general term which includes alcohol sales and restaurants), food cost has soared, and those also require unique overhead, spoilage, and increased labor costs. I really strongly recommend against opening one in our current economy. Especially if you want a cafe. Try to coordinate having outdoor table space with being in proximity to a food truck instead, if your local bylaws allow for that. If you feel comfortable enough, ask your friends if they own their property, and if they don't, how much their rent has gone up. Ask them also about how much their food costs have gone up, and if their profit margins have changed. Not saying that no board game cafe can ever make money. Obviously there wouldn't be game shops and cafes if that were the case. And I think a shop with good location, a dedicated audience that hopefully includes collectible card game players and wargamers, and manageable rent can do just fine. But even some of the the biggest, most famous shops in my country (USA), do not (allegedly) operate at a profit. Even the biggest fish in the pond is (allegedly) subsidized HEAVILY by its online M:tG business. And they even (allegedly) own most of their property, which is a massive advantage. If someone reading does want to open one, read the book 'friendly local game store' first. It's a good reality check.

I've been around spaces with rich nerds who attempt to use their capital to invest in nerd ventures. The four I knew best actually had built their businesses themselves and did a lot of competent financial projection before starting their ventures. My takeaway is this: the only way to make money off of ttrpg nerds is to charge a subscription fee for a shared space with a dedicated audience. Kind of like how Patreon works. The space should be comfortably appointed, with private portions available on a reservation basis. It should be clean, cozy, stocked with snacks and the latest board games, and have multiple tables for TTRPG sessions. Those tables should be relatively private and noise-controlled for the comfort of the players and the other visitors. There should be single-player board games and a few regularly-cleaned video game systems, with sanitized headphones available for noise control. Subscribers pay a monthly fee to have access to this. Some dates will be reserved for events, and those dates should be published well in advance. Outsiders associated with a subscriber can attend, for a fee, and must be approved by management. That's it. Don't open a game store, don't open a restaurant and charge for game tables, don't try to charge for D&D sessions, don't try to organize mini-cons except for fun, don't try to pro DM except as a weekend gig similar to birthday party entertainment. None of those things shake out, profit-wise. I know this is a little tangential because I'm disregarding LARPing, but if the question is 'can rich nerds get ROI on nerd shit?' the answer is 'yes and I just told you how.'

This new couple who owns the venue is so.... very questionable, and their entire operation is just so full of red flags, and everything points to them having no idea what they are doing, and the odds are so against them. The more I hear about Ken Bretschnieder the more he reminds me of the CEO of Oceangate, Stockton Rush, who fired any expert who told him it was foolish to build a deep sea sub out of discount fiberglass. The carelessness, the ego, the alleged tantrums (Rush once threw a game controller, which doubled as a submersible controller, at the head of an expert who was trying to get the sub loose from a shipwreck after Rush jammed them in the rigging), using subpar materials . . . I'm glad they never added rollercoasters etc to Evermore because I have no confidence that they would have been built to code. That they were stacking premade buildings like they were Legos was bad enough, someone could have been hurt or killed. It's also crazy to think that Evermore management was bragging about their solid marble columns, buying real gravestones, and importing expensive arches while skimping on the basics of the buildings. Those are, uh, quite the priorities. Anyway, I never tire of these Evermore deep dives and I hope something weird and interesting happens with the land. The puppet / animatronic tour was amazing. Thanks for another great video!

Well, what I meant about the title was that I think there are entire demographics to whom “comedy” is kind of a low genre that implies just making fun of people and things in mean ways. (Perhaps because their own sense of humor only runs along those tracks, for example, and/or they are unable to laugh about themselves. But I don’t want to get into the *reasons*.) And so for them, seeing a title that’s already a roast would send the wrong message and imply that no honest critique can be behind it. Personally I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the title, but also, I am biased in that I already know full well what to expect from Jenny in general. I just felt it was worth mentioning because this sort of thing *can* be a problem in communication even when every side is acting in good faith—but of course, in this particular case I’m not convinced those people are doing that.

I think “a popular YouTuber published an unfairly critical video, and that’s why the park never got popular and eventually failed” is just a convenient narrative both for certain kinds of fans and for the leadership, because it deflects blame and gives a license to not reexamine their own actions. In hindsight, maybe “the theme park that wasn’t” was a little bit too inflammatory for a title, but idk, I suspect many people who choose these narratives have either never really engaged with the video, or just *prefer* not to acknowledge its contents for what they actually are.

Yep, this is how the Norwegian Folk Museum is, mainly just taking a bunch of old buildings already being there, though some buildings were originally elsewhere and then just moved into the museum. They even have an entire 900 year old stave church in there that wasn't there originally, so it's not like moving large buildings is impossible to do either. They also have an old colonial shop from the 1920's that's actually being used as a little cornerstore within the museum where they sell candy, soda, and so on, complete with 100 year old cigarette ads plastered on the walls, it's very cool.

Ok this is massive so I don't even know if it will work. I'm a former cast member at Evermore and I've posted detailed comments like this on previous Patreon Evermore videos and people seemed to appreciate it, so here we go again! 4:34 I hadn’t heard of him either, despite the fact that I was a performer during time he was supposedly a manager. This isn’t really surprising, ground-level employees scarcely received communication from or about anything above their department’s management. 6:55 Hi Bob! He was actually a cast member at Evermore for one season. This was after he had already been reporting on Evermore for a while, and AFAIK none of his content even during or after that period was endorsed by the park. I can attest he is as friendly and genuine in person as he is in his videos, and a great guy. 7:07 There were several others during the first few years. After Evermore announced in early 2021 that they were discontinuing all stories, quest, and characters they had done up until that point and changing to a more story-light experience, several of the most dedicated fans and frequent guests stopped engaging with the park, including any who made content about it. 8:32 Yeah. They did reorganize and lay people off several times, but only below a certain point in seniority. Obviously Ken himself and any business partners or investors that had any stake in the company maintained control. Though, if they ever “managed” anything, it was done in a very hands-off way and dictated through several layers of employees. 9:55 This kind of toxic positivity is rampant in Utah. Any type of criticism or discontent towards any leadership, usually rich, straight, white men, is highly frowned upon. Literally, in this case. The people who dare to express negative opinions or challenge the status quo (who are often not rich straight white men) are then viewed as problematic and practically shunned. Anyone who criticizes or challenges is bad, bad people are untrustworthy, therefore their criticisms and opinions are invalid. 10:23 Also strange since he did create a TTRPG company. If anything, I think that would qualify someone as a “nerd” themselves. 10:45 Exactly! 11:12 Ken held strong control over a lot of aspects of the park and the business, but it’s obviously far too big of an operation for one person to micro-manage so much of it. Another example is he wouldn’t let anyone change the Evermore website. It was commonly suggested to use the website as a way to communicate storylines and background information for new guests but it never happened. It’s unclear if Ken outright refused that, or if he didn’t mind the idea but wouldn’t do it himself or let anyone else have access to do it. 13:25 There were times when the food at the park was good. I don’t know if they were only able to have better food by cutting corners, operating without being under code, and then changed once they were under scrutiny (remember when one of the buildings lit on fire?), or if they just cut costs. 17:40 I think you’re probably right, and I don’t think this was the only time it or something similar happened. There were several times Ken would try to bring new money in, and sometimes people would bite-only to quickly back out after learning how bad the situation was. 18:50 That would require admitting fault or failure from park leadership, and thus would have never happened. 22:50 This aggravates me lol. Changing the official Facebook page name for the park changed all my “worked at” and tagged posts to say “Thecrookedlantern” instead of “Evermore Park” and it looks awful and drives me crazy. 23:30 I’m definitely biased here but I do think that some of the intellectual property that Ross now owns does have some value, or at least at one point had the potential to, but ironically it was all but abandoned after the aforementioned 2021 announcement. The worldbuilding and characters had their moments, and the Evermore Realms card game, while a relatively small project, was reportedly actually profitable for Evermore. There was an entire second set of cards designed and ready to print that never saw the light of day. Furthermore, even though Ross technically owns all the intellectual property from Evermore, he might not even be aware of most of it. Even if he was it probably wasn't properly archived anywhere. He’d have to dig through old employee emails Google Drives to piece it together, if that data even still exists or he has any way to access it, or rehire someone who worked on it to attempt to recreate it. 25:25 An Evermore property only designed to look nice and not actually facilitate people or events there? Consider me shocked. /s 30:00 Beyond the Gates is not the first former employee/fans spiritual successor that has been attempted. I was briefly involved with a group called Mynheras larp that was also the same concept. Their goal was to not have the same problems Evermore had and then almost immediately began falling apart because they were having the same problems Evermore had-at least on the creative side of things. They didn’t have any money. I haven’t worked with Beyond the Gates but there are good and talented people who are involved and I wish them the best. 31:20 I’d like to think most of us are appreciative towards the work you did and agree with all the criticism you made (and more), and I know several of us are, but it is Utah. I would be disappointed, but not surprised, to find a handful who hold undue resentment towards you. 39:00 I don’t know anything about this exhibit in particular, but there were so many incredibly talented people who were exploited, burned, and abandoned by Evermore. Several sculptors and creature-creators worked for months to years before the park opened, and then were laid off within months of the park opening. I’m glad to see some of their efforts and creations survived and are being put to some use. 42:30 I’m getting emotional and nostalgic seeing these omg ;_; 44:25 oh I’m so glad you had the opportunity to speak to one of them directly! 44:50 YES. This was actually a part of a big and surprising problem with Evermore’s development and how there was no intellectual property developed (e.g. story and characters) before they had to start building them. I’ll go into this in more depth in my eventual video about my experiences at Evermore if I ever finish it 45:28 yep yep yep 46:20 YEP YEP YEP 47:00 I actually didn’t know a lot of this either and it explains a lot. 47:20 and while I’m sure this all true, a lot of the puppets and creature suits did fall into significant disrepair and were never fixed. 51:20 I never personally saw any of this behavior but I did hear about it from others who I 100% believe. 52:00 My impression is that he’s not evil or malicious per se, but is someone whose ego far surpasses his competence and refuses to acknowledge or accept his failures or shortcomings. As he is someone who did create a place that was something of a haven for a lot of marginalized communities in Utah, and -has queer children himself-, him revealing those opinions is a complete betrayal. I now consider him malicious as well as incompetent. 55:00 this is hilarious and I never heard these details before. While, I believe, none of the displays were intended to be specifically religious, several of the antiques were originally religious in nature and several sculptures made for the park were themed similarly. It all felt very classically Catholic or Anglican, which is funny to do in Utah where the population is very religious and conservative but specifically (and proudly) NOT Catholic or Anglican. Mormons. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 56:55 lmao we literally called that building “the barn” the first couple of seasons. 57:55 I was under the impression that the tavern was one of the few that was an original design, but maybe that was just the interior. 59:10 As far as I know, they never attempted to sell liquor on the park premises outside of the premium special events and Vander’s Keep. Corners were cut constantly, but I don’t think they were ever this bold with it. I’m sure he wanted to, but it would be impossible to get away with in Utah. It would stand out so much compared to any other similar attraction in the state, and enough of the population would actually be shocked and offended at the presence of alcohol that some suburban parents with too much time on their hands would report them immediately. 1:00:30 I don’t recall any specific details but there were several liens and lawsuits from contractors who weren’t paid even in the first year Evermore was open. 1:01:40 I’m not an authority on this subject but I don’t actually think this was the case for this building. The upper floor did have “pillars”, but they weren’t put in until several years after the park opened and were clearly fake and not structurally integral. There were antique stone columns in the park (and I once heard they were actually the oldest artifacts on site), but they were across the graveyard from the building around the weird shrine with the antique statue of Saint Apollonia, the Catholic patron saint of dentistry. To be clear, the mausoleum could easily have not been up to code but it wasn’t because there were marble columns in the upper floor. I’m not trying to defend the park by any means, but I’d like to try to keep the facts straight to paint an accurate picture. 1:03:50 These details are also new to me and also not a surprise. Infrastructure throughout the park was very limited. Again, I’m not an expert and don’t know the specifics, but the idea of hosting mid-sized performances and concerts was brought up several times almost immediately when the park opened, and I was told the infrastructure couldn’t support anything like that. Not even electricity for proper lights and sound. 1:04:50 As far as I know this is correct. I’m sure new owners wouldn’t want to inherit all the problems, debts, and negative reputation Evermore Park the company has, but it is sad that the park and the intellectual property have been separated. 1:12:13 I’m getting flashbacks to hbomberguy revealing that Tommy Tallarico wasn’t actually on MTV Cribs 1:16:00 While I’m also not particularly optimistic, this is still a much better outcome than having it all be demolished and bulldozed for condominiums. 1:20:00 This isn’t the first time this has happened in Utah. They seem to be copying a trend of semi-high-profile scavenger hunts that have taken place in the state over the past several years. Unsurprisingly, the winners are always the people who can afford to commit the most time to it (i.e. not working a day job), which aren’t the people that could use the money the most. 1:32:20 Amongst the several, several red flags around Realm Town (and that terrible, terrible name), the one point of optimism I’ll give is that the man in this footage here (he’s not as public as the owners so I won’t name him but for all I know he introduces himself in one of their videos) is the former “Project Director” at Evermore from late 2019 until the layoffs in 2021, and was in a senior creative position for at least a year before that. He was creatively involved in all the storylines and “gameplay” that existed during what is considered to be Evermore’s peak, and experienced firsthand all the traps, shortcomings, frustrations, and challenges in developing and operating Evermore. Him returning to the land formerly-known-as-Evermore is something of a redemption arc, or could be. I would say that because of his direct, firsthand experience that he is one of the more qualified people who could direct this project, but judging by everything you’re pointing out here I worry he is in a similar position under the Foxes as he was under Ken. But I also wonder, because of the new ownership’s apparent cluelessness and aimlessness, if he and/or other people passionate about the park were the ones who encouraged them to purchase the land in the first place. 1:50:40 Meh. If they didn’t know what they were getting into when they purchased the land then you’re just educating them about it now. Anyone reasonable would be grateful for it, but maybe it’s unrealistic to expect that anyone who owns these projects to be reasonable. 1:52:10 Oh! There it is! The card game. I am forever bitter about it because the characters I played weren’t included in the initial set that was printed but were going to be in the finished but unpublished second set. Someone who had connections to its development very generously leaked the art to me and it’s amazing and I don’t know if I can even legally share it. I moved states after my last season at Evermore in August 2023, so I don’t have too much more insight into Realm Town or any other ongoing developments. What small relevance I’ve had here is quickly diminishing haha. I mentioned in another comment that I’m working on a video describing my experiences at Evermore. I say this not to self-promote, but hopefully by making myself accountable to some other people I might be encouraged enough to actually finish it. Big thanks yet again to Jenny for her earnest and thorough approach to this fascinating topic (and to all the topics she covers on her channel) that means a lot, or meant a lot, to several passionate and talented people and for encouraging large-scale creative endeavors to meet their potential by offering helpful and specific criticisms and ideas.

It is really disappointing that it seems like Evermore is just surrounded by serial entrepreneurs, passed from one to the next. It's really striking comparing the interviews with people like the guy who gave the tour with all the puppets and prosthetics to people like the self-proclaimed hypnotist Businessmen who not only aren't super invested in the creative side of the park, they don't seem like they'd be very adept at handling the business side of a park like this.

These are fantastic. This fourth video feels cathartic. Sure, the park was a nightmare but those underpaid workers loved it and found their community after its closure. Now there's a friend group for this weird niche, now defunct, theme park. A LARP theme park is basically impossible. It would require a full-time staff of actors (with insane improvisational skills) and writers to make it work. And by "full-time", I mean they would essentially have to live at the park. The actors would, anyway. Evermore was doomed by mismanagement no matter what, but the LARP thing was just a stupid idea. If they had focused on just building a nice generic "fantasy" themed amusement park, that would have had a chance. A small one. If they built it in a state that people wanted to visit.

I used to work at a place called Kidzania, and Kidzania is what i think Evermore should’ve tried to be like. It’s a huge, kid sized town where kids can make money doing different type educational activities that teach you about a specific profession. They have doctors, fire fighters, musicians, etc etc. Kids get “paid” with an in game currency when completing 90% of the activities and can spend that money on toys and special activities. The system worked great and was rewarding for the kids. they can collect stamps of the jobs they complete in a passport book. It wasn’t perfect but working there was fun and super rewarding. I was one of the “activity facilitators” and got to act out being whatever profession i was assigned to. I know this was more child oriented but i think a system like Kidzania’s could be applied to a more general audience. Something interactive on a large scale isn’t impossible to do, and i hope the new owners can figure it out

I swear Jenny's videos are pure magic and never feel as long as they are. Like I tried watching gladiator 2 the other day and was so bored I kept pulling out my phone to do some movie math. Okay the movie started at this time and goggle says the runtime is this and there were like 10 - 15 minutes of previews and ending credits are like 5 minutes, so like an hour left 🙄 And I hadta do that like 4 separate times and left the theater mad, like I wasted my time and money on that?! I’m a plumbing engineer so I have random niche knowledge about filing things with cities (I’m in New York, it varies by city) but I remember watching the original evermore video and the fact that there was no HVAC (heating or air conditioning) of any kind, fire protection/life safety things like fire extinguishers, sprinklers, or fire hose connections, or plumbing in many of the buildings really jumped out as a kinda red flag. I assumed it was just because they were being super cheap but it makes so much sense knowing that a lot of them are pre-fab buildings. If an architecture firm was involved, they would have brought on engineers, and then all the designs would have been filed with the city, which is typically an additional fee, and it would have required that everything be up to code (national safety and local building codes). Then again, if an engineering firm was involved in the design from day 1, they wouldn’t have had issues with pipes freezing!

It's really a bad sign for a place if the management has a negative view of Jenny. She certainly makes her criticisms plain, but she is approaching it all from the perspective of someone who wants to enjoy what is being offered and is willing to buy in to the experience far more than just an average visitor. The fact that she talks about the problems doesn't mean that she adversarial. Far from it. People who are creating things like Evermore or Galactic Starcruiser need to understand that Jenny's opinions are as good of a measure of core customer experience as they could ever receive. She's willing to buy in, she's willing to go along with the experience, she's willing to be understanding of reasonable limitations, and *she wants it to work according to the vision that has been communicated to the public*. Jenny didn't make the stormy weather for your attraction. She's just the meteorologist reporting that it's there. If you want to make what you're doing work, then listen to what she has to say. And she's 100% willing - even eager - to be able to report that improvements have been made to an experience.

The combo of prefabricated buildings but focus on real antiques is really weird to me. There's a couple of open air museums around where i live ( germany, though i think they are just A Thing in europe) where they take actual old houses (300years+) and group them together as a pseudo-village. To preserve historical buildings, while allowing new (needed) buildings in populated areas. You can walk into these houses, there's usually some interiror decor and some info about what kind of people lived there and what their day to day was like. Some of them have a lot of days where crafts/trades people will be in the house and do their craft in a old time way. Smiths, ropemakers, beekeepers, millers, teachers, cooks, bakers, tanners, shoemakers, carpenters...I think its really cool and fun and love to go. It does kinda feel like Evermore wanted the legitimacy of a museum like that, with Old And Real stuff ( which tbh, as an european i am not inherently impressed by. I grew up in a house that was 600 years old. Its not that big a deal.), and actors 'bringing history to life' with a fantasy twist. But also it was supposed to be 10 other things and none of them were committed to. And it looks like the new owners also don't want to commit to anything, they seem more vibes based.

My guess is it’s the simple fact the builds, as we learn in this vid, are all pre-fabs. You can’t cook on premises in spaces without ventilation to-code; you can only re-heat items, like at a Panera. i'm 100% sure that "clinical hypnosis" is quite literally not a degree that exists in any form (at least not in the US). i'm not an expert or anything, but hypnosis itself is pretty scientifically dubious, and you have to go to med school to get a 'clinical' degree, and there's no way a person can go to medical school for something like that. (source: i've studied Psych and have been through the wringer trying to get all of the right degrees and accreditations lmao) edit: somebody below said their dad is a primary care doctor that does hypnosis; somebody getting a general medical degree and then practicing hypnosis as one part of a care plan sounds a lot more plausible to me than someone getting an actual degree IN hypnosis.

With a little research the Evermore buildings are shaped exactly like what you get when you Google "prefab barn" just with a rustic facade. If you look at the inside of the tavern-barn you can totally see them although they've covered them up wood sheeting, I think. Look at the corners and the "timbers" along the roof. The ones I used to make were a little more hardcore, like ours weighed 1100 lbs. each and the company's website shows a bunch of industrial facilities and school gyms.

Neither of those require either a castle or watching spots, porn just needs a set and a brothel needs privacy or no clients will come. And neither of those industries are known for spending excessive amounts of money on the setup. It was probably just a weird architect, there are tons of those building weird houses. I am relatively close to Evermore. In Christmas 2023 my whole extended family was in town and we were wondering what we could do (for cheap, many kids) and Evermore came up. I had never been and was interested in going. But, my sister who went the previous Christmas said, " There is nothing to do and you end up standing outside in the cold the whole time." So, I was outvoted. If I wouldve known they were gonna close I would have gone by myself, just to see it. Great video as always.

There actually is one of those Realm Town videos where they go in length about the problems they found with the train tracks, including that Evermore had just plain dumped four to six feet of fill material on top of active water and gas lines - which had the side effect of covering up their nozzles and control mechanisms. About the hypnosis thing: my father (an MD working as a primary care doctor) practices medical hypnosis. He's part of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and keeps up with new research and clinical studies. It seems most useful for eliminating something negative. He sees a lot of patients with fears and phobias, smokers who want to quit, and people with chronic issues like tinnitus and pain. I don't see how medical hypnosis can give you a billionaire mindset though.

Weirdly I recently found a user on reddit who vaguely alluded to being a manager at Evermore back in the day. I snooped on their post history and found posts of them trying to get DIY advice to resolve things like the pond and all of the actual replies suggested significant structural work that would cost a lot of money and the user replied to say they had an incredibly limited budget to work with (implying it was a pond at their own house, but the Evermore buildings were definitely in the background). I was going to try send this to you but I figured you were done with Evermore. Other posts were them looking for help to come up with riddles and other story content and dancing around what purpose these requests were for. All further evidence of how mickey mouse this whole endeavour was.

Okay, so I'm from Utah, and people describing the CEO (Ken) as throwing tantrums and yelling and screaming and making people feel bad and generally being unprofessional but also being a nice guy, etc., is so so so Utah, especially if it was a woman telling you. You cannot bring wealthy, religiously aligned (iykyk), white men to task for their bad behavior or incompetence here. It's always excused one way or another and their "true" self is just a selfless, down to earth guy who would give you the shirt off his back etc. The "true" self is never a giant man child who lucked, nepo'd, and exploited his way into millions and subsequently proved he was not the super businessman he projected into the world.

Regarding the train, while I agree that generally if you have the train infrastructure then you should just buy a new train I don’t think it’s as simple as that for ‘Realm Town’. We already know that the train had problems and that the infrastructure for the buildings was cheap and bad so I think it’s very likely that the train infrastructure was also cheap and bad. Chances are that they would have had to rip it all out even if they wanted to keep the train so it could be rebuilt properly. At which point it’s sadly cheaper to just not replace the train.

I'd say it feels particularly relevant because those moldy and structurally unsound buildings have been bought by people who will have to deal with those problems, likely without being aware of them before purchase. But also I think a lot of this video (and the others in this series) is just about Jenny sharing what she found and thought was interesting and I think that definitely applies here. Also when you're running a business and that the public are engaging with (and paying too as well!) you have a duty of care to like, not put there health at risk, which it seems Evermore definitely were. I guess ultimately maybe I'm just not that sympathetic to a failed business venture.

According to government records, the land Evermore Park sits on is still owned by Evermore Park Investments (the company Brandon Fugal created to buy the land from Ken) and he still is the director/owner of that company. So unless the Utah County tax records are really slow to update (not unlikely) Travis and Michelle are just renting it from Brandon, which seems to track with their seeming inability to stick with anything long term.

It's sad how familiar everything about Ken feels. I've worked under this exact type of guy: a rich businessman who comes across as very personable and down to earth which earns him people's good opinions and loyalty, but as soon as you tell him anything he doesn't want to hear he becomes angry and treats you extremely rudely, just living out his temper because he's the boss so no one can reign him in. That workplace also had an extremely high employee turnover rate... I made it for a year, and I saw some great managers leave on bad terms because after they gave the job their all, the boss got mad at them and treated them with absolutely no respect. And still some of them had this weird loyalty towards him, this unreasonably kind opinion that he's actually a great guy, just difficult to work with or whatever. And I'm like no actually I think people who treat their employees like that just kind of suck! If he's only a great guy when surrounded with yes-men and he'll come down hard on everyone who's not, I'm gonna judge that!

It’s such a shame that Jenny gets so much animosity from Evermore and it’s fans. She’s always been even handed, overly kind to the performers, and provided truly helpful suggestions (some of which they clearly agreed with because they adopted them). Oh well, their loss. I literally don't understand how the CEO could think you were mean? I've watched your Evermore video more than once. He probably saw the YouTube video - as in, he saw *that it exists* - and someone told him that it was critical of the park so he assumed it was trolling rather than actually watching your video.
