Robert Sheckley has this cool SF short story about dreams coming to life, creating monsters. If I remember correctly, they defeated the dream monsters by hiding under a blanket with a flashlight. This intro gives vibes of that - also of Roadside Picnic and Annihilation - and I'm here for it.
