Red: It's not quite like a lie...techniquely. Because you see... it's for the greater good.
In order to lead Ray to the Barrier while minimizing the destruction he causes, Red leads Ray along the main road, a wide path where Ray can't really step on anything. Except for the road itself. The dents and footprints will slow down travel between the smaller towns for a time, but they can be repaired.
Red just really hopes they will not be met by any merchants or travellers along the way, who will get mortified by the titanic boots approaching them on the road, that was supposed to be safe.
But of course, a gigantic human cannot remain unnoticed forever...
