At the end of the monologue when Dexter says "score one for the little wooden boy", its a reference to Pinnochio who wanted to be a real boy. Dexter longs to be a real human.

I don't like to do spoilers but in this one instance it won't hurt to tell you Dexter is supposed to be 20 when he kills the nurse, we find out later. Not sure about Deb, but I'm sure I ought to know and have forgotten.

What a great observation you made about Dexter going to crime scenes that have no blood. Honestly, I've rewatched this show at least a hundred times and never thought of it, LOL!

Dexter's cover is being a mild mannered lab geek. He would have blown his cover by doing anything to the drug dealer. It was painful to watch, ack! I wanted him to do something so badly.
