It's been a few weeks since our last newsletter - only because we've been releasing so many new videos! It was a busy July, and there's still lots going on, so here's our round-up of the latest production news...
Poll Result
The big news is the result of our latest poll, which closed just a few hours ago.
From our All-American shortlist, we have a clear winner - with 36% of 505 votes cast - The American Revolution!
I'm particularly pleased that this was the winner for various reasons - it was a close runner-up in previous polls, it's such a brilliant, world-shaking topic, it was the focus of my Senior Honours course at university, so I've got lots of opinions! And lastly, I think our Anglo-American production team will do a really brilliant job - as long as we don't come to blows over it...
The Spanish-American Wars of Independence was a very respectable second place, and will definitely return as an option in a future poll.
Napoleon Announcement
As trailed in our poll post... big news for Napoleonic Wars fans - after the American Revolution, we will begin our long-requested remake of Waterloo and the Hundred Days (the channel's very first video from 2015.) The new version will be at least 3 episodes, with more detail, more bangs, more map, more everything.

One Cool History Thing
Has anyone noticed a certain sporting event called the Olympic Games taking place in Paris at the moment? Did you also notice just how many cool historic locations are being used as venues?
Here's a quick rundown of some of the best, and their place in French history:
Château de Versailles (Equestrian, Modern Pentathlon, Para Equestrian)
The huge grounds of the Palace of Versailles seem a fitting venue for the equestrian events. The cross-country course takes competitors around the Grand Canal, along the same paths ridden by kings and queens over the centuries. Napoleon used the Grand Trianon within the grounds as a spring residence from 1810-1814. And of course, in 1919 the Palace hosted the negotiations that ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in the Hall of Mirrors, formally ending World War One.
Eiffel Tower Stadium (Beach Volleyball, Blind Football)
The most famous landmark in Paris dwarfs the temporary stadium on the Champs de Mars. The tower was originally designed as a centrepiece for the 1889 World's Fair, though many at the time doubted it was achievable and hundreds of artists protested against its construction. Supposedly, the Eiffel Tower would have been blown up after Hitler's order not to let Paris fall into Allied hands except as "a field of ruins". Fortunately, German General Dietrich von Choltitz ignored the order to demolish many of the city's bridges and monuments.
Grand Palais (Fencing, Taekwondo, Wheelchair Fencing, Para Taekwondo)
Another imposing monument on the Parisian skyline provides a great arena for combat sports, including French favourite, fencing. Like the Eiffel Tower, this building was also constructed for an exhibition - the Universal Exposition of 1900. It has been a flexible exhibition and event space ever since, but in World War 1 it became a huge military hospital.
Hôtel des Invalides (Archery, Para Archery)
Archery events are taking place on the Esplanade des Invalides, against the stunning backdrop of the golden Dôme. The building was commissioned by Louis XIV as a home for disabled and retired soldiers, and part of its grounds still serve that purpose today. The Governor of Les Invalides thus became a role of symbolic importance, and was bestowed by Napoleon upon Marshal Sérurier from 1804-1815. Les Invalides is the final resting place of many of French military figures, including Napoleon himself, whose tomb now sits in a crypt under the famous Dôme.
La Concorde (Skateboarding, BMX Freestyle, Breaking, 3x3 Basketball)
The largest square in the capital is currently a stage for jumps, tricks and backflips, but quite a different spectacle faced the crowds who gathered in the Place de la Concorde during the French Revolution. Then, the square was known as the Place de la Révolution, and it was the guillotine that took centre stage. More than 1,000 people were executed here during the Revolution, including Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette in 1793. Six years later, on the eve of the Brumaire Coup, Napoleon rode through the square and remarked to his secretary, Bourienne: "Tomorrow, either we will sleep at the Luxembourg, or we'll end up here."

I keep dipping my toe into the ACW. If EH covered it I could see myself falling right down the rabbit-hole. Like the Napoleonic Era, it also has no shortage of larger-than-life characters.

You guys should do the beginnings of the French Revolution, from storming of the Bastille to the Reign of Terror. I think it would be a good capstone for the episodes on the Napoleonic wars.

Oh hell yea that would be phenomenal! Could there be room for a series on Eugene Of Savoy? History Marche & House of History started a series but further production has yet to manifest. In the hands of Epic History it could be really fantastic!

Very exciting news for sure! Looking forward to the new Waterloo videos, as well as the American Revolution! I was one of the votes for Mexican-American War though, so is there any chance that it and the War of 1812 might be made in the future?

Very excited to see the 100 days campaign again in all its glory. Hope we get to have quatre bras and Ligny done with full battle maps. Couldn’t help notice a suggestion about switching up the narration for The American Revolution so for what it’s worth please don’t do that you already have the best narrator out there, or atleast consider a poll for that kinda change? Awesome to see all the new works coming down the pipeline but I hope we have some medieval or ancient history after all that to mix it up a little and hit different periods.

Yes! American revolution. Now that you are doing naval battles, I hope you cover battle of the Chesapeake, one of the few times in that period France wins a major naval battle and basically allowed for the siege of Yorktown to happen. Great work

Waterloo & The Hundred days the Original releases are on point a remastered version is going to be awesome! & Small recommendations for War of American independence, Both Chuck & Charles voices would go super well. Charles could Narrate the Bristish view of things & Chuck the same for the Colonial Bretheren. So exctied. To fully finish Napoleon personal memoirs accounts stories & here say of glory sought after & again this needs to be voted on Military Medical treatment during time of constant War. Could even do a small segment on Besserieres since His Father was Surgeon idk just an idea lol one final thing Maurice De Tallyrand. The shrewd political operator needs to be recognized when time allows. Have an awesome weekend Toby & Team 💚

Would love to see the history of England,Spain or the Ottoman empire with your amazing production and narration

Even I vote for independences I'm happy with this result. The American Revolution is the logical choice. You studied it, you should have said so from the beginning! The option would have won at 80% ! For Waterloo, as a big fan of Napoleon, I'm will be very happy if the "technical" aspects (planning, logistics, political reform) are included as part of the Waterloo campaign, because it might bring a different angle, but honestly a little break would be welcome on Napoleon after Marengo. Interesting and beautiful photos on the Olympics!

I just hope the Waterloo remake can cover lesser known facts about the campaign. Such as Napoleon's lines in Belgium being stretched thin over a wide front, and there were some disruptions in communicating orders. So not all his forces out in the field could reach him during the battle, therefore it wasn't just Grouchy not being able to prevent the Prussians from linking with Wellington, that lead to his defeat.

Hello Toby! On the Hundred Days: Will it include maps of Ligny, Quartre-Bras, and Wavre? (I think Wavre would be really cool to cover, as well as Ligny). It is amazing to me how the Waterloo Campaign was such a defeat for Bonaparte even though the French won 4/5 battles (arguably 3, if you consider Quatre-Bras a draw) and the Coalition suffered more losses than Napoleon!

Hi Toby, Great plan to update Waterloo. Certainly, you can make an already great movie even better. However, I absolutely love the end of the current version. It‘s mind-blowing how these photographs bridge between the past and today. So consider keeping the end. ;-)

Looking forward to the Second World War Stuff- as a side note I actually did a talk last year about what happened to the Italian Garrisons in the Ionian Islands after the 8th of September 1943, so it'd be nice to see the massacre of Cephalonia and the other Greek islands get a mention.

American Revolution is so interesting to me. I grew up on Nova Scotia and had always been aware of the Canadain Province's having a chance to join in the Revolution but didn't for various reasons. Hope to see and hear why the other places refused and looking forward to hopefully getting some WW2 updates

The American Revolution one of the key aspects that cropped up after the Seven years War or the so called first ever World War or World War -1 where the American Revolution became the hallmark for big events soon to occur such as the destruction of the British American Empire, the creation of the first American constitution that proved disastrous before the true US constitution and became the predecessor steps of what formed the huge deadly French Revolution that brought Napoleon to power and destroy Europe for a decade such remarkable events that would be copied in the first known World War, I trust in your knowledge Epic History to use the helpful knowledge of other channels and my suggestions to create the perfect American Revolution for all Americans to see.
