COMIC: Zippity-do-dah! (p. 6)
🕑 Added 2024-08-05 00:01:45 +0000 UTCHo-hoooooooo! DONE! The boot zipper repair comic that I started about eight months ago is now, at last, completed!
As before, I started with a digital mock-up of what I wanted the panel to look like:

Then I cut out each individual shape from my paper stash.
I realized the original title banner ("Zippity-do-dah") just... didn't look right. I'd freehanded it without looking at reference, so this time I went back and painstakingly attempted to pin a real ribbon into the same position so I could draw it accurately... only to realize that the position I was trying to recreate looks awkward and bad in real life, not the way a ribbon would naturally move.
So then I did a second attempt, following the natural bend of the ribbon (for the most part) and drew from that. Oh! Around this point I realized that instead of a ribbon, I could make it a free-floating zipper length! SO CLEVER.
Finally, I put all the pieces together!
Taaaah-DAHHHHHHH!
Next post, I'll show 'em all together.

Thank you! I'm so attached to it too, I'm so glad I finally found a project to use it on over a decade after I first saved these scraps.

Bravo! I'm still in love with that purple paper, it's so stunning.
