I think anything SHOULD be watched in release order. There is a reason for that in any show/movie.

I think you should do the episodes, because the quality is equal to the movie but have some extra scenes. But as some said you should binge watch them in one session like a movie 😉

Regardless of how you watch it, i fully recommend you watch the Mugen train arc in one sitting. Breaking it up over several weeks cuts the flow and can diminish the experience for you.

Why would that be the best way? 2x1 is a prequel to Mugen Train chronologically anyway. It is the logical choice to watch that episode before the movie as it introduces you to Kyojuro and sets the stage for the movie.

There's no option for Mugen Train, then 2x1, then 2x8 on. That's probably the best way.

Yeah, honestly, all t hat matters is that you skip the recapped episodes AND watch the movie. The movie is goated, and episode 1 is more or less a "Here's more!" type if fillers, but does add a teeny bit to the character that is Rengoku.

The first episode of the 2nd season is like a filler prequel to the movie, so you don't REALLY need to watch it and if you ask me the last episode of the 1st season flows nicely to the movie, so I vote for the 2nd option.

The movie is outstanding and you don't lose any real content from not watching the episodes. Episode 1 + the movie is a great way to watch it.

The only possible reason to pick the movie over the episodes is if you hated the show and wanted to get it over with faster. The episodes have vastly improved animation and a number of extra scenes not found in the movie.

I’ve only ever watched the episodes but based on everyone’s comments I support 2x1, movie, 2x8! I think it will be a cool format to get through this plus that will help progress through DS that much more quickly. It’s such a great arc id love to see it in movie format

I think I am game for either. I think I enjoyed the show just as much as the movie. Perhaps since it would be such long form content you could do the movie as a patreon exclusive and then the episodes could be put up like normal since DS is rough on Fair Use Law

It was really nice to see 2x1 so long after seeing the movie as a prequel to the movie but I think if I was watching for the first time now I'd watch 2x1 first, then the movie, then the next arc (2x8 and on). The nostalgia feeling of watching 2x1 after the movie wouldn't be the same without the long wait I think.

Maybe "disservice" isn't the right word...but essentially, to me anyway, it feels like them having to basically make up stop points throughout the movie takes away from the "flow" if that makes any sense. Haha.

It messes with the pacing a bit too much and cuts out a scene from the beginning of the movie entirely.

Glad to see most agree on the method. I personally think the episodic version of the movie, itself, is a disservice to it. Honestly, Mugen train is one of my favorite movies, like overall! That first episode though...you HAVE to watch it.

Just a suggestion moving forward. In the crunchyroll settings, there's a setting that allows closed captions to be displayed. For example if a Name of a character appears on screen as an introduction, you would be able to tell what its saying. It not quite like subtitles and only appears when something like that comes up. Just saying because they might be useful in later episodes
