Correct. Endeavor literally says in season 2 that he "created" Todoroki to surpass both him and All Might. Endeavor wouldn't hinder Todoroki at all, especially since we know Endeavor doesn't believe he deserves the #1 spot the way he got it (that's in season 3).

Season 4 part 1's ED is my favourite; I feel like it impacted me even more than several of the other seasons' OPs. I do hope you'll give it its due, after the attention you gave to the OP.

Uhh I’m pretty sure the only reason todoroki exists is to become the #1 hero. Endeavors weakness is he can’t go all out because his body overheats which is why he looked for someone with an ice quirk so his kid would be able to use the fire a max capacity without overheating. He wanted to make someone that can surpass him and all might

Just to clarify it’s been stated before that Endeavor wants Todoroki to surpass him and All might. That’s been his goal since he himself couldn’t surpass All might. I think the Jornalist gave that assumption since Endeavor’s personality is trash so he can’t imagine someone like him being okay with his son “beating” him.

it's not that endeavor would let todoroki surpass him as much as it is that for him (up til a certain point in time) that's the whole point of his son's existence. the reason endeavor got married and had children was because he couldn't surpass all might, so he decided his children would do it instead as an extension of himself. todoroki was born *because* endeavor wanted him to be number one. i think the journalist was referring more to the fact that endeavor's pride wouldn't allow for his son to be mentored by the rival he was supposed to surpass.

Endeavor has stated numerous times that he wants todoroki to become the number 1 hero and surpass him. he's a cruel abusive jack-ass. but, he is proud of his son and does want him to succeed even if it is just for his own vicarious narsasim
