I actually really don't like this episode, but for a reason unrelated the episode itself. I saw this episode subbed. Then I saw it dubbed when it premiered on Toonami in May 2020. Then I saw it again when they reran the episode on Toonami the following week. There were production delays related to COVID-19 with the episode after this one (episode 23) as they continued transitioning to recorded-at-home dubs. Then I saw it rerun on Toonami *again* because they ran into more production issues with episode 24. So I just got worn out from all the reruns.

Gentle was where I started realizing the actual thesis of the show. It's not "anyone can be a hero" but "the difference between a hero and villain is chance, circumstance, and the perception of society." People with "villain" quirks, mutation quirks, people like La Brava and Himiko Toga whose quirks cause personality shifts that make them incompatible with "normal" society. They aren't completely blameless, obviously. Shinso pushed past the quirk prejudice to pursue heroism, there are prominent pro heroes with intimidating mutation quirks like Gang Orca, etc. But society failed all these villains first.

Man, once again, you're making me appreciate this show more and more. I'm enjoying the Gentle and La Brava parts of this arc more than before. They really are just a more healthy and wholesome Joker and Harley Quinn.
