I can answer this. Defeating an Upper Rank is not the only criteria to becoming a Hashira. You also have to be the highest overall rank, Kinoe, which Tanjiro is not.

I'm just gonna say that if any other hashira went then they would be dead. giyu was slow and his crow was old and couldnt speak quickly, so if any other hashira went they would've likely arrived to face the demon (muzan) who would've killed the hashira instantly, even gyomei

Why do you think that Tanjiro has not been promoted to a Hashira yet? Could it because he uses sun breathing or because he was supposed to replace Giyu?

How lucky were tanjiro and nezuko that giyu was the hasira on muzans trail, knowing that it was his kindness and compassion that spared nezuko and started tanjiro down his path? How do you think the other hashira would have handled finding tanjiro and nezuko instead?
