In regards to Tanjiro not becoming a hashira: Tanjiro has gotten a lot more powerful, but, as this training arc clearly shows, he is still not on the hashira's level. He's getting closer and closer to them, but he's not there quite yet. Also, as other people have mentioned already, there are several requirements you have to meet to become a hashira, which he hasn't yet.

If I remember correctly there are strict requirements in order to become a Hashira. You need to have killed a certain number of demons, be at the highest rank before Hashira, and have killed a lower moon (something Tanjiro couldn’t do in season 1 but Giyu did with ease). Giyu might not believe he deserves it, but he didn’t just get appointed to that position. He worked hard to achieve that rank.

That was Rengoku hearing about a random slayer harboring a demon and jumping to conclusions, Giyu wanted to killed nezuko when he first showed up. Her actions are ultimately what change his and all the other hashiras minds. It’s entirely possible in the exact same station Rengoku would acknowledge her unique behavior and make the same call Giyu made

No, they know what it is. (Tanjiro met Rengoku's dad, who later wrote a letter to tell him what he knew about it.) I think it's just that literally all Tanjiro knows about it is how to breathe and how his dad danced. I think he formed his own moves (like Clear Blue Sky) based on that.

The same thing also happened to Tanjiro. The Corp got word of a demon sighting in Asakusa, and it turned out it was Muzan. Had they known who it was, they would've sent one or more Hashira to deal with it, not Tanjiro.

After DS or SL please consider watching Vinland Saga. It has genius level writing, up there with attack on titan in my opinion. It has amazing complex characters and character devoplement. Its takes place in the viking era with characters that actually exisited in history. It obviously fiction but it makes everything seem much more real and human. Its also great for discussion because theres just so much to talk about. Also has great animation and dub voice actioning.

Another thing is that defeating a Twelve Kizuki isn't the only criteria to becoming a Hashira. You also have to already be rank Kinoe, the highest level in the Corps below Hashira.

I always thought that tanjiro hadnt been elevated to hashira because hes never mastered one style of breathing. Also i could be wrong about this, but im pretty sure none of them even know what sun breathing is even tanjiro calls it hinokami kagura not sun breathing.

i do have to say, i would credit tengen more on the kill for gyutaro since tanjiro was about to die before his epic re-entrance and stuff

I feel like with giyu, he ended up training so hard to become so strong because part of him wanted to honor him as sabito mentioned in their conversation before he died, but he still had the survivors guilt hanging over him (which might explain his attitude when interacting with others being kind of distant) and maybe it just came to a head when they were wanting him to now train OTHER slayers and that perhaps he felt unworthy of being a mentor

Yeah, they just got word of a demon sighting in the area that HAPPENED to be Muzan himself. If Giyu HAD gotten there a day sooner, he would've been screwed.

Giyu wasn’t necessarily on muzans trail specifically, he was just chasing a demon or responding to a demon sighting It would be pretty irresponsible for the corps to intentionally send one slayer after muzan lol

It's been a while since Giyu's been in the spotlight, so you may not notice that Giyu has the same VA as Lelouch from Code Geass, as well as Nine from the My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising movie!
