Didn't notice the double drop and had a chaotic week so didn't get to get this together until now but, just wanted to drop in a little bit of storytelling that unfortunately didn't make it into the Dub. It's a small nuance they could have never known was going to come together the way it did but it's beautiful to me and I think you would appreciate it. Way back in season 2 we see Iida talk to his older brother Tensei (also Iida yes but simplicity!) about why he became a hero and Tensei talks about people who help others being the coolest and brings up the example of someone working at a service desk and helping a lost child. In the Dub Iida asks why he doesn't join the police to help but in the original Japanese he asks why he doesn't work at a service desk to help lost children and he's told he's taking things too literally. Which even when he becomes older is something he still does. He follows the exact parameters of the entrance exam, he only considers things that he's TOLD to and is approaching Hero work as a profession and not a selfless calling the way Deku does, which of course is understandable given society. Hero work IS a profession but it's a perception we know is flawed and he realizes too as time passes. But, that conversation with his brother comes up again, and that PARTICULAR phrase is repeated not just in flashbacks and such throughout the series . Such as in the class 1-A vs 1-B arc when he grabs Todoroki that's one of the lines he thinks of when he decides to prioritize rescue. In THIS episode when Deku tells Iida to let go instead of saying he'll always race to Deku after the whole "challenge you" bit he responds "I won't let go! I'll come running no matter where to take the hand of a lost child. I'm Ingenium! Meddling when you don't need to...is the essence of being a hero right?" So yes, the particular mission is very much about getting Deku but I also think having those two sentiments back to back shows us Iida has internalized EXACTLY who he wants to be. He's synthesized the inspiration he initially got from his brother with the philosophy he got from Deku to fully form his understanding of what it means to BE Ingenium, the name he inherited from his older brother. THAT'S his identity. And I also think it's hilarious and beautiful that it really IS literal this time. His mission was to "take the hand of a lost child". Sure, Iida is basically the same age as Deku but he is undeniably a lost child and Iida along with the rest of class 1-A have come to take him home. There's just so many BEAUTIFUL layers to how those two lines coming together work with all the set up they had over the years and I think you deserved to know just how good it was.

Nah, he knew what he was doing. Because he spent his childhood specifically being trained with the goal of surpassing All Might, I’d be willing he knows the capabilities almost as much as Deku (and could know more than Bakugo regardless of his discussion with All Might and Deku). He knew Midoriya would bust through it without much harm.

The showing of deku and bakugo as kids talking as it progressed through the time at ua was a reference to Naruto in the final battle against Sasuke Naruto and him flashed from kids until the moment they clashed with a final beautiful attack

One thing I don’t see called out much. The move they used to catch Deku at the end is very similar to his own plan when they rescued Bakugo a few seasons back, just with a few more Quirks to enhance it.

One more thing: I also love how, much like THAT episode of Attack on Titan, this episode barely uses any music. For the most part, it uses nothing more than "ambient" music that you can barely hear above the sound of the rain. Until You Say Run starts. You think You Say Run is playing because Deku is breaking free of the ice. But then it keeps going. Then you realize it's playing NOT for Deku but for his friends, especially Iida, who are RUNNING towards him to save him. This episode's LACK of OST is god-tier.

seeing this season wrap up and it being close to the end where kenny can also give in depth answers to the questions along with Montana without having to hold back for spoiler purposes makes me so excited for their season 7 reaction I can't wait to see them both be able to go crazy with the post ep discussions

I really love two specific moments in this episode: First, Iida. Back in S2, after Iida, Deku, and Todoroki fought Stain, Iida vowed that he would not use the name Ingenium until he could call himself a true hero. This is the first time he's used that name since then. ---- Second, Bakugo. Kenny mentioned that Bakugo called "Midoriya" instead of "Deku". At the beginning of the series, Bakugo was calling Midoriya "Deku" because it sounds like the Japanese word for "someone who can't do anything", "dekunobu". Because Japanese characters can be read multiple ways, the first part of the name "Izuku", specifically "Izu", used a character that could also be read as "De". Putting the two together gives you "Deku". (As an aside, Ochaco later points out in an early S1 episode that she likes the name "Deku" because it sounds like the Japanese word for "I can do it", "dekiru", which is why Midoriya uses "Deku" as his hero name.) Kacchan calling Midoriya "Izuku" is extremely significant because it conveys that Bakugo doesn't see Midoriya as a useless person anymore. In fact, like he said in his speech, he believes Midoriya is and always has been ahead of him. This is him acknowledging and confessing his own weakness and apologizing to Midoriya for all those years he bullied him. Even now, rewatching that scene and knowing the significance of Bakugo uses Midoriya's real name still makes me cry.
