The buildings look like the ones in AOT because they are German Medieval houses, They have a special name called "Fachwerk" houses. you can find them everywhere in Germany most likely in old cities.

This is a type of anime that I affectionately like to call "comfy anime." It takes its time, keeps the story relatively simple, and focuses heavily on the characters rather than some major bombastic plot. I always feel warm and nostalgic when I watch anime like these, because it makes me think of simpler times when I didn't have to worry about as much. Other anime I adore that invoke similar feelings in me are Spice and Wolf and The Ancient Magus' Bride, which I highly recommend.

People who say Frieren is "boring" just don't appreciate well written stories, it does have some great action too, just not every episode, this anime is easily in my top 10 animes of all time.

I will say this is a very slow burn anime, I lowkey didn’t like it at first cuz I didn’t see it going anywhere but once I realized the point of the show I started to appreciate it for what it was

Probably just categorized as "western animation", but still some of the best to come out and has an amazing back story to how it came to be (aka the kickstarter campaign and how it was just supposed to be a 1-2 animation special).

Really hoping they give it a shot especially since they seem to like the work of the various voice actors in other shows. Also some scenes they just kill it with the voice work. S2e4 as a great example from liam. If they did a test with the first 2 episodes they would get some great engagement for it I bet.

i used to watch anime first in sub then again in dub, but now i lost the feeling of wanting to rewatch it at some point so now the only time i watch anime dub is when watching you guys start watching the anime that I've already watched

I'll be reacting to this watching yalls reactions to this (same as arcane) What a beautiful intro! That said, maybe it's other shows that have influenced my perception on things...but for some reason that priest giving her the ancient grimwoire with potential immortality spells seems suspicious. 🤣 (bc how is it the priest, who was already older than the warrior when they ended their quest, somehow outlives the younger guy by another 20 years? 🤔🤣)

Well I was trying to say that all 4 of them dropped at one time when the anime started because they were all meant to be watched together. It doesn't hurt you to separate them but that was my main point. I am glad you are doing it so it hurts to see once a week but I understand why you decided to. I am not trying to act spoiled and asking to drop all 4 at once but it probably would have been a better time if you had at least watched all first 4 episodes in one sitting since they all dropped together when it started and they are meant to be the "prologue" of the series.

Just a little info, most names are German words and from the ones you already know, Frieren is 'to freeze', Eisen is 'iron', Himmel is 'sky' or 'heaven', Heiter is something like 'cheerful' or 'serene' and Fern is 'far' or 'long distance'. When watching it as a German, it's funny because you know what they mean and all the names gives you a hint about something of the chatacter

oh btw all character names are actually German words, for example, Frieren means freezing and Himmel means heaven. The location's names are also just German words. As a German guy, the show was pretty funny to watch knowing what all those words mean

having watched both, I vastly prefer the dub. The sub is of course good, but I feel the dub voices capture the characters much better. Also having watched them both recently, I struggle to remember anything that was conveyed in the sub and not in the dub. If anything, the few lines where there is a difference I think the dub gets the point across better. They also watch the dub for every show anyhow due to auditory processing issues.

Also one last thing! Please look at and take note of the ending lyrics just like you did with the opening lyrics. If it doesn't have the lyrics on the episode please find the ending elsewhere and react to the ending with the lyrics. It is important to know since the ending later in the series that changes has a lot of meaning to it when compared to this first ending. Just trust me when I say the ending for the 1st half and the ending for the 2nd half are matched together and are really impactful as you go through the season! This is something that I wouldn't normally ask but the ending lyrics really go well with the series and need to be looked at please!

People who always watch shonen jump anime always come at this in a way where they think about the typical style and tropes shonen anime does things. This isn't a shonen anime. Its a deep philosophical fantasy anime I guess is the best way to put it. So its best not to come at it assuming it will be the usual style of your classic shonen jump action type of anime if you get what I am trying to say. Kind of hard to explain but it definitely has action in it just don't try to think of it as your usual action shonen series.

This is a lot like D&D but my advice is that you need to look at this series in a deep and meaningful way. It has a lot of good life lessons and deep meaning behind almost everything it does. I have cried quite a few times throughout this series including the manga which has a whole entire seasons worth more of content. Its a very impactful and meaningful journey.
