coming back to this to say that i recently started a new playthrough of CP2077 (since i last played before they made the huge updates that changed everything, as well as the DLC) and i knew that they put some Edgerunners content in there, including grave memorials at the cemetery in the game. went to go find it and did...right as i get to David's....the in-game radio started playing I Really Wanna Stay At Your House. ain't no way this game did this to me

What’s so fucked is we already live in a cyberpunk dystopia but it’s the absolute lamest possible version of one. We don’t even need chrome to be just as fucked, we’ve already got deadly weapons all over the place and a fractured society that isolates people and destroys mental health as a matter of course. Who needs cyber-psychos when we’ve got 500+ mass shootings a year? All the same problems and we don’t even get sick fuckin’ brain-dances so I can go deep sea diving and spelunking without dying of fear.

Really cool thing about Smasher is that he *is* a Cyberpsycho, just a high-functioning one. It’s not delved into in the show or the game really, but in the TTRPG, cyberpsychosis is explained and treated as a mental disorder that’s fueled partly by trauma and also by a lack of empathy for others and even yourself as a result of seeing bodies as disposable parts. It’s telling that in the TTRPG, the means for staving off cyberpsychosis is going to therapy lol.

Not many pick up that the Op to this series finishes with David's head being shot. It's a major spoiler but I'm glad it's a detail mostly gone unnoticed, or if noticed people think it's a metaphor. The city was always gonna end him it was just its greatest legend that pulled the trigger. Adam Smasher is also a boss in the game which takes place about a year after this series.

I've seen lots of reactors watch this episode and cry a lot. But seeing Montana slowly deflate into the chair and turn into the dark Mr Incredible meme hit the hardest. I love this show because it aims to explore the deep facets of sadness and loss. Finding silver linings like Lucy getting to the moon has helped me in my real life find and hold onto good things when in a dark place. It kinda served as emotional "practice" for me

In the game, you can find/wear David's jacket. You can also find Rebecca's iconic shotgun, Guts, where it was dropped in Corpo Plaza when she died. A few characters who had minor roles/cameos in the show do appear in 2077. Also, one of Smasher's last lines to David connects directly to the game's main story, which is a nice reference.

Fun fact: Adam smashers empathy score in the tabletop game is "yeah right..." He only goes on missions where collateral damage is specifically allowed. He's basically a functional cyber psycho. He was someone who was insane before chrome, he had no humanity to lose.

Fun info in Night City Legends. There are a number of characters in the lore that are ultimate extremes. Adam Smasher being fully chrome (except maybe parts of his brain) but also his opposite Morgan Blackhand who is equally as badass with minimal chrome (he has his iconic cyberware black arm, some neural and optical enhancements). You also have Alt Cunningham who is an amazing netrunner who ends up in the net as a ghost in the machine being a person that is fully digital. Bartmoss who is the ultimate hacker of cyberpunk who crashed the global net but was physically frail and only had hacking.

Fun Fact: All of the dead characters have “graves” in the game with little notes all written by Lucy. Night City isn’t a place for happy endings. A great video I watched about David talked about how his biggest tragedy is that he’s always trying to live someone else’s dream, unable to look at what he wants and what’s in front of him. His mom wanted him to get to the top and he did. Maine wanted to run his crew, and David picked up after him. Lucy wanted to go to the moon, and he got her there. But none of those were actually what they wanted. If only David could have slowed down and realized that.
