Maybe although I honestly don't remember things like DBZ or other old anime in the 90-00s in the USA broadcasts at least toning down flashing nearly at all. It could be a more recent change or maybe USA broadcasters got the unfiltered original copies back then? Would have to do more reaserch personally.

Also fwiw, I didn’t say the anime flat out failed, I said it didn’t do the best job. Which is pretty evident if you see how many channels have reacted to this and NOT understood what daikaiju meant until it was explained in the comments.

I’m so used to watching darker animes that I half expect them to lose half the team before it ends but I was wrong with Mha when all might didn’t die in that first nomu battle so I’ll prob be wrong here too time will tell

I don’t know how to elaborate on this without giving major spoilers, but the Kno8 wiki describes a daikaiju as “a particularly strong Kaiju whose fortitude level exceeds 8.0”. While yes, some daikaiju can show intelligence, that is not the factor that designates them as a daikaiju, it is strictly the fortitude level.

Not really. They're not wrong about daikaiju likely being intelligent kaiju, as those are likely to be above 8.0. I wouldn't say the anime failed at this, at all.

Don't know if you've been told before or know. But the screen getting darker is due to Japanese regulations on TV broadcasts usually. My hero had if for example in quiet a few scenes. It's due to those scenes having alot of movement or flashing light effects. It's done to prevent the chance of seizures. It's why rebroadcast of even DBZ tone the flashing down via edits. But Modern anime put on a filter basically to tone it down. In dvd/blu ray releases they usually remove the filter that stays on for streaming/broadcast which iirc is what occurred for my hero

For some clarity, daikaiju is just a label given to any Kaiju with a power level of 8.0 or higher. In the manga all of the “labeling” is given up front in bonus panels. The anime tried to work the explanations into the conversations, but I feel like it didn’t do the best job since I have seen a lot of people get tripped up by what the labels could possibly mean

The moment between Kafka and Mina was nice, but this wasn't the first time we've seen her crack a smile. She did so for a second after Kafka accidentally first-named her back in episode five when he became a cadet, and Hoshina even took notice. 😅

The scene with Haruichi talking to the chef is anime original, which is interesting cause he hasn’t gotten that type of focus in the manga, at least not yet. Don’t know if it’s going to lead to something or not.
