Honestly Leorios Sentence of "Money can buy everything, Treasures, hearts even lifes" always hit me hard. Because you want him to be _wrong_ want to say that that isn't true, peoples lifes and their feelings are more precious than money and they _are...- And yet they are not. Because if the past few months have shown anything it's that enough money can buy you almost everything. Maybe it can't buy you genuine love, but it can buy you enough people who will gladly proclaim their love for you. It will bind people to you as long as you have it. Money is a curse and a necessity and it's power over us is a frightening hellscape with no real way out. "Money can't buy happieness" is a saying that poeple with enoug money to sustain themselves use. It should be "Money _alone_ can't buy you happienesss, but most people without money will tell you that it would make their lifes a great deal ahppier if they had enoug to not worry. All that to say, yeah, that sentence has always hit me hard, because it's not as easily refutable as we would like it to be

Maybe, but I'd argue that's really only true of the core concept of insurance. The idea of everyone pitching in a little knowing that most will never need it is fine in theory. The companies themselves are certainly evil, in the sense that every for-profit human service is inherently evil by reducing human life and suffering to numbers in a bank account. On top of the fact that they've so thoroughly corrupted the system that they get to siphon off money in a dozen different ways; also that capitalism itself seems almost intentionally designed to funnel the most sociopathic members of society into positions of power.

I agree it's not inherently evil but the problem I and many have is the fact that you can pay these thousands of dollars in deductables and on the insurance and still get denied at every corner. Insurance can do well under an imperfect system, but a lot of times it ends with fighting for what you have payed for at every corner

while i can understand that it seems like the insurance companies are bad guys, they exist only in a capacity to course correct the flaws of capitalism. but capitalism is inherently flawed. so insurance really just highlights that. i only say this because insurance companies aren’t inherently evil. the reason they exist in the first place is inherently evil
