I'm so glad you noticed the parallels. I've always seen it as they are all students of the previous party. Himmel -> Frieren, Frieren -> Fern, Eisen -> Stark, Heiter -> Sein

As far as why Heiter didn't teach Fern healing magic, it's likely a reference to how in most fantasy games/rpgs healers are a different class/type of magic-user from what Fern and Frieren are. In D&D for instance Heiter would most likely be considere a Cleric rather than a wizard or mage at all. Or in JRPGs would be a "White mage" which is typically a spellcaster who uses non-offensive holy magic to heal their team-mates.

seins ( the new crew member) name " sein" is a german word which means "being" as in "to be someone / something". this makes sense since sein wants to be someone important instead of a meaningless character

On the subject of funny character introductions like Sein's, I've thought of a couple. Lemillion's from My Hero was pretty funny ("Trash, amiright?") There's also Scorpia from She-Ra, or Seahawk and Mermista, or Entrapta- dang, She-ra had some funny moments. 😅 There's also Sasha from AoT, aka Potato Girl.

I am glad you caught onto the fact that Frieren is basically Himmel now. She is taking his spirit and everything he taught her along with her. Its just one of the many many amazing things about this series. Also Heiter didn't teach Fern anything that has to do with being a Priest because she was focus and had talent to become a mage. Mage and Priests both use magic but its entirely different forms of magic. Priests are more support and Mage is more direct combat

Rather than both being geniuses I think what connects them more that they are "cowards". Both using excuses for not taking action sooner and telling themselves it's too late.

@15:50 yup! This is also represented in the end of the intro where Frieren is seen in the middle screen and split in half. In the first journey, she took the role of an observer. In the second, she takes the role of the leader. I think its really neat

I thought it was moving days? Yeah just checked and it's on Wednesday now so itd be 14 on Wednesday and 15 on Friday if they decide to do Frieren instead. Might be easier to do hxh or just have a rest day though, wouldn't be upset either way

I think it's more so the context of this being a kind of fantasy world reminiscent of medieval times. You see it with a lot of Shogun era anime as well, it's just a way of thinking of this world and characters, not necessarily how we'd think of it in other contexts

I feel like I've seen everyone react to the title and immediately assume it was talking about Frieren and Elves, and I have to wonder if thinking "own kind" refers to race by default is a bias we all aught to be examining.

I think they were a bit rough on Sein's reasons for staying. It's not just "He stayed for me so I'll stay for him. " It's "he gave up the greatest opportunity a priest could be offered because this is my home so if I leave my home it makes his sacrifice for me worthless. " It's a fine line and still not completely logical but more compassionate and a guilt led choice by Sein.

I always like to picture all four members of this party being geniuses. The only difference being that with fern and Stark freerin sees their potential for greatness. As opposed to already having achieved a certain level of greatness or mastery.
