There's a little detail throughout this episode involving Stark. Fern got mad at him for being to rough with her, which he promised to work on. Later, while Frieren is tending to Fern, we see Stark helping the farmer lady with milking her cows, something you obviously need gentle hands for.

We joke about Fern raising her elf mom, but I love Frieren and Fern's relationship the most when Frieren is acting as the maternal one, and seeing her comfort a sick Fern this episode is too sweet.

Himmel is my top 3 favorite characters of all time and I have watched hundreds of anime by now. If you technically think about it Himmel died half through episode 1. Episode 1!.... But he still wins the character popularity polls by an insane amount. He still has the biggest impact of all of the characters in the series. He is still the single most important character in the series even when compared to Frieren because he still continues to teach Frieren and show her things that she never realized she needed to know. All from flashbacks through Frieren. His character even inspired a guy in another country to stop a criminal with a knife and the guy who saved those people from the criminal wielding a knife said "That is what Himmel would do". Himmel became a whole inspiration for a bunch of real life kids to the point that parents were apparently using Himmel as a form of teaching their kids a lot of things about morality. He is just a great character all around.

I wished they showed the lyrics for the new ending because the new ending is the same song but its basically Frieren responding to Himmel and the first ending version was Himmel sending his thoughts to Frieren.

Personal theory and this is a sad one - Sein's friend is dead, and Sein joins the party to go to Aureole to see him again, same as Frieren with Himmel and Fern with Heiter, they all would have someone they want to meet in Heaven (Maybe Stark with Eisen too, but that'd be tragic)
