Frieren did say elves don't experience romantic or sexual urges. So she might not even realize what's going on because she is basically ace and Himmel might be aware of that and so didn't want to make things awkward. Not saying that ace people can't be in relationships either. It just might look different.

I liked that idea as well, but I don't think Fern would have realised that she was feeling 'jealous' at the idea, rather that jealousy would have been subconscious and he mind came up with the idea that she must not like the idea because 'Stark is a pervert'

Yeah, more or less. We learned during the Aura arc that it was Flamme's favorite spell and one that she taught Frieren shortly before her death. It also seemed to imply it was the only non-combat spell Flamme ever taught her. Also yes it's importance continue to be noted further on.

I think of it as elves having demisexuality as the default. Sexual urges are extremely rare, while romantic feelings take a very long to bloom just because of how elves perceive time

This is my FAVORITE episode of the season. Himmel has the most pure form of love for Frieren. It would be awful to love someone so insanely much but know that they are multiple times the span of your own lifetime. Himmel loved her so much that he didn't want to shackle her down at all in her long life by pushing his love onto her.

Fern doesn't want Stark to hold Frieren, simply because she thinks he is a pervert. From his hand gestures it made Fern uncomfortable with a boy holding Frieren, she feels protective of Frieren and therefore doesn't feel a boy carrying her was a safe choice. That's why I like their reasoning better cause it makes it a cuter reason rather than a weird or for sake of comedy reason.

I always believe a strong aspect of what makes you who you are, and how you can emotionally develop, is through experiencing conversations with others and reflecting upon it. When looking to Frieren it makes so much sense that her emotional maturity or at least emotional comprehension is much lower than her years lived because she has been alone for so so so much of her hundreds of years alive. Her elf family was murdered when even flamme could identify her as a child. She was with flamme for max. 80 years of flamme's life. After that she was all alone until himmel chose to look for her. Frieren is finally at a point where she is able to reflect on past conversations and gain emotional intelligence. I think as well that the exposure that she has watching Fren and Stark interact and develop along side of Frieren is rapidly accelerating that process for her as well.

If I remember correctly, Frieren did not specifically learn the flower creation smell for Himmel, it’s a spell she already knew. POTENTIAL SPOILER: I think it’s a spell Flamme taught her and Himmel liked the spell a lot. Those reasons are why later it is revealed to be Frieren’s favorite spell. Is that correct? Someone fact check me.

I'd say that what we tend to think of as "maturity" really just boils down to social experience. The more you interact with people the more you build up and the easier it is to to deal with new situations. In Frieren's case, despite her age in number she spent ~1000 years as a hermit, so not only did she basically stay emotionally stunted for that entire time but it then made it a lot harder to contextualize the short 10 years she spent travelling with Himmel and the others. Most of her maturing was probably done back when Flamme was still alive, so yeah I'd agree with something like early-mid 20s still trying to figure out how to function as an individual.

The point Frieren made about the demon spell of flight recontextualizes the episode where they fought Qual. Qual took notice of Frieren flying because it was an exclusively demon spell the last time he was awake around 80 years ago.

While Frieren's ring and Fern's bracelet may both be based on a mirrored lotus, the designs are actually different. Frieren's ring from Himmel has a closed bloom, signifying the love that never was. 🥲 Fern's bracelet from Stark, on the other hand, has an open blossom. Do with that what you will . . .

I always thought that the thing about not having romantic and/or sexual attractions is just her own bias because her own experiences and not really a fact about the elfs, they just experience those feelings different because of how much they live and is like time slow downs with them.

36:27 - Yeah, as tragic as it is, Frieren was not at a point yet where she could understand Himmel. Sein calls her a child this ep for not understanding relationships, Kraft also said Frieren was young, I feel like she just was not yet at a point in her life where she could reciprocate Himmels feelings the same way, it took her 80 more years to start to understand, I can't wait to see them meet again, however it happens it will 140% going to make me sob, I just know it.

I love this episode. When himmel gets on one knee for frieren in the background in between them is the clock tower. Like Time is the only think stopping them from being with each other 😭
