Man…Beru getting the Dark Aria music in the background was just badass. I know many prefer the manwha, but there is just something to being able to add music and sounds in the anime that elevates things.

To be fair, it has been a WHILE, and it's not like that scene was super informative about what was happening and who was involved. They breadcrumbed the Jeju Island stuff throughout season one, and it wasn't till later that we had all the pieces.

Except Japan's S-Rankers far outclassed South Korea's in both power and numbers (except Jinwoo), or at least they did before the Ant King downsized them. The JHA leader had no reason to abandon a squad of hunters who were never a threat to his country. Sure, there wasn't anything the remaining hunters could do to help, but the leader trying to take advantage of the situation (plus not caring about the deaths of his own people) was absolutely scummy.

Fun fact, in the manwha the black any keeps ripping of the tanks arms/ injures him from what I remember and tracks the magic back to the camouflaged healer, instead of in the show his perception is high enough to see him.

It's not bad by any means, just not peak. Not being the greatest in the world is okay. I feel lile a lot of people nowadays see just being good as not enough or even an outright insult. I mean 'mid' basically became an insult and it just means mediocre. There's nothing wrong with being average, and SL isn't average. S1 is above average already and Season 2 of SL is a lot better. I see way fewer issues with it. A lot of the dungeons in S1 felt lile hodge podge random BS go, not like actual dungeons you'd see in a video game, and S2 rectifies that entirely. Every location seems coherent this time around.

You're not wrong about Solo Leveling being comparatively simpler, but that doesn't make it bad. As for the world-building, I kinda like the ongoing mystery element with the System, especially in season two.

My problems with SL are mostly world building and story related. The animation is certainly top tier, but good animation without substance is not enough for an anime to be peak. Even the fight scenes are sometimes repetitive and just flashy without something impressive underneath all the special effects. Compared to say Frieren where the fights are shorter, but they all tell a story. They aren't just pretty effects randomly flying around like in so many other anime, instead they have thought put behind them, you can tell and understand what each person is trying to do and how they want to adapt to the challenges of each fight. From the very first fight in ep3 you can already understand exactly what Frieren was thinking and what her plan was. Have Fern shield her while she prepares her spell, fly up when it's ready and shoot. Very simple strategy, but it IS a strategy. It's not just winging it in the moment, it actually is something you yourself could come up with. SL sometimes shows a real strategy, like woth raising Iron vs the Ice Elf, but most pf the times it's just slash slash slash, then one person wins, or a so fast it's invisible hit instantly takes a person out.

That being said, I wouldn't call it that unreasonable for people to put Solo Leveling in the same boat. The production quality is CONSISTENTLY high (animation, music, etc), and given that both shows have the same musical composer (Hiroyuki Sawano), it makes sense that those who liked Solo Leveling would be asked to check out Attack on Titan after.

It's apparently made more explicit in the manwha, but the Black Ant found Byung-Gu by thrashing Hunter Ma ("Puny S-Rank") over and over, which forced the healer to expell more mana to heal him, revealing himself to the Black Ant.

5:10 - I would not call either SL or Invincible peak. They're both good, but not peak. People really overuse that word to the point where it is losing all meaning, not everything is peak. They cannot be by definition. The only two recent anime I would call peak are Frieren and Orb. If we go further back in time then Promised Neverland season 1 would also qualify. I have not watched Vinland or Jojos so I cannot comment on them, only that I heard good things.

The Japanese Chairman was once Dracule Mihawk, and don't you just hate politics? In defense of Hunter Ma, the giant man, the ants couldn't really understand Korean, since prior to noming on Byung-Gu he only really ate the Japanese hunters, so he would only really know Japanese prior to that. He also knew of the healer from eating part of the queens head

I feel like the king ant(maybe knight would be a better title) was absorbing the queens memories when he ate her head, not her powers but it could be both. I mean the shield guy could block the queens attacks but not the kings so thats what Im basing this on. Though absorbing ones powers doesnt necessarily translate to getting their abilities and stats. 🤔 I wonder if the manga specifies this.

One thing to remember Kenny, is that the healer is an S rank, by definition has mana off the charts. If he goes around healing any and everything, he might expose his mana to a bunch of people with little or no mana resistance, possible giving them the eternal sleep disease. Even jinwoos friend, the D rank, his mana was enough over time to pass that onto his father. I had the same thought as you, so he would probably be on call for critical or terminal patients, but healing a cold or cut might put more at risk.

Cool little fun fact: nothing happened to the cameraman because when beru ate the queen and gained her memories he saw that the cameraman didn’t take any action against the ants and didn’t harm them so the cameraman was spared. lol gentlemen beru

Tbh, I don’t really even blame the Japanese Hunter coordinator, the power structure is already super volatile normally , then add in hunters in the mix that can rival whole militaries ? You have to be cold when a small group or even one person can overthrow a whole country. Is that a dick move? Absolutely, but understandable? Also yes
