I feel like both Wing and Kurapika's new master can both be understood by the same sentiment: Imagine your favorite activity, be it a game or a sport or something else. Now imagine meeting someone who showed some interest/promise in that activity. How would you react? I'd wager that many people would be excited by the prospect and even willing to lend advice or assistance in teaching the newbie the ropes.

Something I love about this show is that the stakes are frequently not live-or-death. That makes it a lot tougher to just say “well of course he’ll win, he’s the protagonist and we have a lot of episodes left” like for most shonen

The mangaka also inserts more text than he wants due to his illness. Unfortunately when he doesn't feel well he can't draw out all that he wants and has even had to submit unfinished work as the final product. That's why so much info is allocated to the narrator so that the info isn't lost I remember reading one ch and it was all text and concept art.

I think Gon healing very quickly is more of an environmental factor. He grew up in the “sticks” surrounded by wildlife and nature. It’s also the reason why he has strong senses and instincts. He’s basically Tarzan.

Each new hunter that does not know about Nen is given a examiner to determine if they should be allowed to learn Nen and if so to teach them. It was not a coincidence that Gon/Killua and Kurapika all found a teacher at the same time.
