The way I interpreted what the priest said about love and what Canute figured out about love is, that in order to truly love you must have the inability to hate. The Apple represents choice between good and evil and because that apple was eaten we all have good and evil within us. Before the apple was eaten, we were only good without any knowledge of evil. But love is the essence of God‘s perfect creation before choice of evil was ever involved. So the sun wind, snow mountains, all God’s creation without the choice of evil, which is the essence of love.

Exactly what I was thinking. 😂

Not gonna lie him rejecting God doesn’t go so well for his development (subjectively).

Ragnar was lingering so long I thought he was going to ask for his search history to be deleted. "Hairstyles for cone head.", "Dating advice for handsome men but with cone head.", "how to beatbox"

Such a powerful scene, I cry every time he embraces Bjorn

Also idk if it's been mentioned but Canute's voice actor Griffin Burns also played Muichiro Tokito from Demon Slayer and Colt from season 4 of Attack on Titan

You might not have been thinking of this Kenny, but I've heard people compare the music in this episode to the Whiterun music from Skyrim

No one asked but here’s my thoughts on the Priest’s point about discrimination. I think what matters most is the universal truth of being human, which is that the love we feel for others rarely extends beyond ourselves, our friends and our families, despite God (across most at least the Abrahamic religions) calling for us to strive for something greater. Of course though, it’s something that we can never really attain — unconditional love. Whether you agree the love we feel for the people in our life is truly just discrimination doesn’t matter, but if one is to accept the notion we should strive “to love thy neighbor” for example (or anything similar) they’ll see this is at least an accurate interpretation of how our experience of “love” is incomplete and finite, while God asks us try to to make it infinite and unconditional. I at least find it personally interesting because despite being raised religious and losing my religion in the Army, I choose to believe this is the point of the “test” in life… to strive for goodness and love until the very end, because giving of yourself fully despite the futility is the closest we can get to loving unconditionally.

Showing Eve taking the apple as Canute and the priest talk about sin and humanity is such BRILLIANT symbolism. 🍎 I've yet to see a show tackle Christianity the way Vinland Saga does. ✝️

Canute has begun his journey, finally.

Yukimura somehow having 3 main characters just because he can:

The priest was amazed by Thors because he didn't harm or kill anyone. He displayed nothing but kindness in this world, the essence of love from someone living

Double drop!! Can’t wait to watch on my lunch break thanks Kenny

From what we’ve heard from Thors a true warrior has no enemies and doesn’t need a sword. The prince embodied both of those at the end here

very happy you noticed the details of canute’s eyes changing! the manga artist yukimura is very well known for the amount of detail and soul he is able to draw in characters’ eyes. wit studios did an incredible job this season of honoring that as well
