Here’s the next chapter. Harry and Celeste meet someone in the forest, and they enter the next dungeon.
Chapter 10
Harry and Celeste crept through the forest north of Greater Whinging. The loamy scent of decaying vegetation assaulted their nostrils, a pungent reminder of the corruption they were investigating. The air hung heavy, thick with an oppressive silence that seemed to swallow every sound.
Rows of skeletal Aspen trees stretched before them, their slender trunks ghostly white in the fading light. Once vibrant and full of life, the Aspens now stood as eerie sentinels, their bare branches reaching skyward like gnarled fingers.
"Disgusting," Celeste whispered, her nose wrinkling as she perched on Harry's shoulder. "It's worse up close. The very air feels... tainted."
Harry nodded. The forest floor, once carpeted with lush undergrowth, now lay barren and grey, littered with the desiccated remains of ferns and shrubs.
"No birds," he murmured. "No insects. Nothing. It's as if all life has been drained from this place."
They pressed on, Harry's eyes darting from shadow to shadow. The deeper they ventured, the more pronounced the corruption became.
Signs of human activity dotted the area—debris and the occasional glint of scientific equipment. "Looks like people have been here," he observed. "They must be baffled by what's happening."
Celeste snorted. "I'd love to see their faces if they knew the real cause."
Harry's skin prickled, tiny hairs standing on end. He closed his eyes, focusing on his Mana Sense. A faint magical signature pulsed nearby, feeling oily and wrong against his magical senses.
"There," he breathed, pointing towards a massive Aspen tree. Its gnarled trunk stood out among the other trees.
As they approached, the magical energy grew stronger, making Harry's teeth ache. He circled the tree, his hand hovering over the bark. The wood felt warm, almost feverish beneath his palm.
He paused at a deep hollow in the trunk. "Celeste, look."
The fairy zipped into the hollow, her violet eyes widening. "It's the gate!"
Within the hollow, there was a dungeon gate, its surface shifting and rippling as if it were alive. As Harry leaned closer, tendrils of energy reached out from the gate, reaching out to grab him. He stepped back instinctively. "Not yet. We need to be prepared before we enter."
Words began to form on the gate's surface and Harry began reading the dungeon description.

Harry brows furrowed. "Celeste, we've got a problem. This dungeon's on the verge of breaching."
The fairy's wings buzzed nervously. "How long?"
"A week," he replied. "If we don't clear it by then, whatever's inside will spill out into the real world."
“Should we tackle it now?”
Harry shook his head. “There is no rush to do it immediately. We aren't fully prepared for it, and it’s already late.”
He paused, weighing their options. Although he had improved his physical attributes significantly, he hadn't focused on his mental and magical attributes. The dilemma gnawed at him—should he wait a few days and work on those areas, or should he prioritise closing the dungeon? The prudent option was to take care of the dungeon first. He didn’t know how long it would take to close it, and they didn’t have an unlimited amount of time like the previous dungeon. Besides, there could be other dungeons out there that needed his attention, so he couldn’t afford to waste time before he left for Hogwarts.
Celeste tapped his cheek. "Can I finally level up now? The requirement for the dungeon is level five, after all."
Harry sat down on the forest floor, careful to stay out of the gate's reach. He opened Celeste's status window and spent enough experience points to level her up.
"Where do you want to put your AP?" he asked.
Celeste took a moment to think about it. "Put it into Agility. Having more speed is always a good thing."
Harry complied, allocating all five AP to raise her Agility to sixteen.

She had enough experience points to level up again, but that could wait until they were inside the dungeon, otherwise, it may raise the level of the monsters if he did it now.
“What about your skills? Which one do you want next?” Harry asked.
“Void Burst,” Celeste said without hesitation. She had a long time to consider what skill she wanted next.
He spent three of her PP to acquire the new skill.

“It’s awesome!” Celeste exclaimed.
Harry nodded. It would be a useful skill when facing multiple enemies, although it was a bit expensive to use.
He was about to take a look at his skills when a cacophony of snapping twigs and rustling leaves shattered the eerie silence of the corrupted forest. Muffled cursing followed, growing louder with each passing moment. He sprang to his feet, muscles tensing as he prepared to defend himself.
Two floating orbs of light bobbed through the trees, illuminating the twisted branches in an eerie dance of shadows. As they got closer, Harry noticed the silhouettes of a man and a woman, their wands held up, producing the light.
The pair stumbled into the small clearing, with the witch looking dishevelled. Their eyes widened as they spotted Harry, clearly surprised to find a young boy in the depths of this forest at such a late hour.
"Blimey," the witch muttered, her heart-shaped face scrunching in confusion. "What's a kid doing out here?"
The wizard, a tall, bald man with dark skin and gold earring, spoke. "Careful, Tonks. We may have just violated the Statute of Secrecy."
The witch—Tonks—nodded, her wand at the ready. "Right. Might need to obliviate the poor Muggle lad. Can't have him remembering all this, can we?"
"Hold on," the wizard said. He pointed at Harry's shoulder, where Celeste was perched. "Is that... a fairy?"
Celeste bristled, her tiny fists clenching. "Who're you calling 'that', baldy?!"
Tonk’s jaw dropped. "Wicked!"
The wizard lowered his wand, offering Harry an apologetic smile. "My apologies for the rude welcome. I'm Kingsley Shacklebolt, and this is Nymphadora Tonks. I take it by the fairy’s presence that you are aware of the magical world. Are you a wizard?"
Harry nodded.
"Don't call me Nymphadora," Tonks grumbled, her hair darkening to a deep red. She glared at Harry. ”It’s Tonks. Remember that, kid.”
“Wierd name, but okay.” Harry gestured towards her head. "I couldn't help but notice... your hair keeps changing colour. How do you do that?"
Tonks grinned, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "Oh, this?" She scrunched up her face in concentration, and suddenly her hair began cycling through a rainbow of colours – from emerald green to shocking pink to deep purple. "I'm a Metamorphmagus. Can change my appearance at will."
Harry's eyes widened in amazement. "That's brilliant! Can you change other things too?"
Tonks winked and, with another look of intense concentration, her nose elongated into a pig's snout. She oinked playfully, causing Harry to burst into laughter.
Kingsley rolled his eyes. "Tonks, please. We're on duty."
Harry raised an eyebrow. “On duty?”
“I’m an Auror,” Kingsley said. "A wizard cop. "I work for the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.
“Tonks looks too young to be an Auror,” Harry observed.
“She's enrolled in the Summer Auror Trainee programme,” Kingsley explained. “She’s hoping to become an Auror after her final year at Hogwarts, so she is getting some hands-on experience early."
Harry nodded. "Nice to meet you. I’m Harry Potter."
The effect was immediate. Both Aurors' eyes widened, flicking instinctively to Harry's forehead, where his infamous scar peeked through his messy fringe.
"Merlin's beard," Tonks breathed. "Harry Potter?"
Kingsley's brow furrowed. "What in the world are you doing out here, Mr Potter? This is no place for a child, especially not at this hour."
Harry shrugged. "I heard about the forest on the telly. All those reports about the trees dying and animals fleeing—it piqued my curiosity. So, I came to explore."
"Alone?" Kingsley pressed, his tone sceptical.
"Well, not entirely alone," Harry replied, gesturing to Celeste. "I've got her for company."
Tonks leaned in, studying Celeste with undisguised fascination. "I've never seen a fairy like this before. Where'd you find her?"
Celeste huffed, crossing her arms. "He didn't 'find' me. We're partners."
"Blimey." Tonks grinned. "A spunky one, aren't you?"
Harry cleared his throat, eager to redirect the conversation. "What about you two? What brings Aurors out to this neck of the woods?"
Kingsley and Tonks exchanged a glance, seeming to have a silent debate. Finally, Kingsley spoke, his deep voice grave. "This area's been giving off strange magical signatures. We're here to investigate the source."
"Yeah," Tonks chimed in, her enthusiasm barely contained. "Weird reports have been coming in for a few days now. Trees and vegetation dying, animals fleeing, all without a good explanation. It's proper creepy, innit?"
"I noticed it felt... off,” Harry replied. “But I haven’t seen anything that could be responsible for killing off the plants.”
Kingsley's eyes narrowed. "Mr Potter, I’m going to have to ask you to leave while we investigate the place. It may be dangerous.”
“I have been here for a while and nothing happened to me,” Harry protested.
Kingsley shook his head firmly. "It doesn’t matter.”
"He's right, Harry,” Tonks said. “You should head back to your family."
Harry barely suppressed a snort. The Dursleys, worried about him? Fat chance. But he knew arguing would only make things worse. "All right. I suppose I should head back."
“Tonks can escort you back home,” Kingsley suggested.
Harry shook his head. “No need. If necessary, I can defend myself.”
They escorted him to the edge of the forest, as if they did not believe his promise to return home. Tonks waved him off and promised to meet him on the train on September 1st. He had a feeling that she wouldn’t leave him alone, even if tried to avoid her.

Harry awoke to the soft glow of simulated sunlight filtering through the enchanted windows of his magical tent. He stretched languidly, savouring the comfort of his plush bed—a far cry from the lumpy mattress in Dudley's second bedroom. As he sat up, his mind turned to the challenges that lay ahead. The Aspen Horrors dungeon loomed large in his thoughts, an obstacle that demanded careful preparation.
Harry summoned his menu and accessed his skills menu. He had nine path points to work with, and he wanted to learn some new skills. The first one that interested him was Language Comprehension. It sounded counterintuitive because it wouldn’t help him in the dungeon, but he wanted it because it would help him learn some French.
He intended to visit France soon to resolve his wand issue, and being able to speak some basic phrases would help him navigate the unfamiliar country. Furthermore, it only cost him one path point to unlock the skill, and unlock the next one.
Without further hesitation, Harry unlocked the Language Comprehension skill.

"Brilliant," Harry murmured. "This should make life easier."
The next skill on the Scholar's Insight Path appeared. It was called Appraisal, and its purpose was obvious. Harry spent three path points to acquire the skill. Although it may appear expensive, the utility it provided was too good to pass up. Rather than rely on appraisal scrolls, he preferred to have a skill that he could use at anytime.

He was pleased with the two skills he acquired. He still had five path points to spend, but he was hesitant to use them all at once. For all he knew, he could discover another Grimoire in the dungeon that was more useful than his current ones. He would decide once he got into the dungeon and levelled up with the experience he had accumulated.
After closing his skills menu, Harry opened his inventory and pulled out a vial of Invigoarating Draught that he had brought from Diagon Alley. He wanted to see if it was useful to use in the dungeon.
“Appraisal,” Harry said, focusing on the potion.

It was certainly useful, but it’s side effects were awful. He needed to becaredul how he ha managed his consumption, as he waouldn’t be able to use health potions one it reached a hundred.
The toxicity resource functioned similarly to consumption but with more severe and lasting consequences. As characters ingest potions or expose themselves to certain magical effects, their toxicity level increases, introducing a significant risk-reward element. Unlike consumption, which caps at a hundred, toxicity has no upper limit, making it a potentially more dangerous factor to manage. The effects of high toxicity levels range from mild discomfort to severe debilitation, with symptoms worsening as the level rises. These adverse effects might include decreased attribute stats or even temporary loss of magical abilities, impacting a character's performance in crucial moments. Furthermore, it was much harder to reset compared to consumption; simply resting isn't sufficient to cleanse the body of these magical residues.
"With this and the other buffs at my disposal, I should be ready," Harry murmured. “At least for the beginning of the dungeon.”

Harry stood at the entrance of the Aspen Horrors gate, with Celeste hovering at his shoulder. They had prepared as well as they could, and now they only to enter the gate and conquer the dungeon. He was a lot more nervous than the first time around, as their was a lot more at stake. The training wheels were off, and he expected this dungeon to be more dangerous than the tutorial.
"Well," Harry said, "no point putting it off any further."
He settled into a cross-legged position and started meditating. Nexus Meditation gave him a temporary boost to spell effectiveness, which could come in handy. Although it only lasted ten minutes, it was still a nice bonus to start off with.
After meditating, he reached into his inventory and pulled out a plate of the English breakfast he'd prepared earlier. The aroma of sausages, bacon, and eggs wafted through the air.
"Breakfast time, Celeste," he announced, offering her a tiny portion.
As they ate, Harry felt the buffs taking effect. A warm glow spread through his body, and he could almost feel his vitality increasing.
The player has consumed a meal prepared with his cooking skill. English Breakfast: Maximum HP increased by 15%; Stamina regeneration increased by 30%; defence increased by 20%; consumption increased by 30%; effects last one hour.
With the meal finished, Harry pulled out a vial of golden liquid—the Invigorating Draught. He uncorked it, and downed the contents in one go, grimacing at the taste. He received another notification that the effects had taken effect.
"Ready?" he asked Celeste.
"Of course," she replied. “This will be a piece of cake.”
They approached the dungeon gate. Tendrils of energy reached out, grasping at the air around them. Harry took a deep breath and stepped forward, allowing the tendrils to wrap around him and Celeste.
There was a moment of disorientation, and darkness, and then...
They emerged into a nightmarish landscape. The air was thick and heavy, carrying the scent of decay. Twisted Aspen trees surrounded them on all sides, their pale bark seeming to glow faintly in the perpetual twilight. The branches reached towards them like gnarled fingers, creaking ominously in a wind that wasn't there.
Celeste shuddered. "I don't like this, Harry.”
“Where did your confidence go?” Harry teased, but his voice betrayed his nervousness.
He looked around, feeling he hairs on the back of his neck standing up. He couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched, unseen eyes boring into them from the shadows. His hand went to his belt, drawing out his dagger.

Quest Description: The Aspen Horrors dungeon originates from an ordinary forest that has been corrupted over time by an unknown means. Botanical monsters now roam its depths, seeking out any unfortunate individuals who venture into their forest. Harry Potter must delve into its depths, discover its secrets, and extinguish the malevolent force at its core.
Objective(s):
1. Traverse the dungeon to find and defeat the core of corruption.
2. Defeat the boss and close the dungeon gate permanently.
Quest Completion Rewards: 500 XP; Acolyte Mage skill unlocked.
Sub Objective 1: Find and harvest at least 100 rare ingredients that are used for making potions.
Sub Objective 2: Locate and destroy all corrupted Aspen nodes throughout the dungeon.
Sub Objective 3: Find traces of the Stranger.
Sub Objectives Completion: (in order) Minor Mana Potion recipe; Shadow Orb; Aspen Wand Core (crafting material)
Time Limit: 7 days.

Harry's eyes widened as he read through the quest details. "Tthis is a bit more serious than I expected."
Celeste scowled. "Is it too late to leave?”
With a thought, Harry dismissed the window and checked his main menu. The dungeon was currently in its magic phase. He felt a surge of confidence; with his recent meditation boosting his spell effectiveness, this could work to their advantage.
"Right then," he said, squaring his shoulders. "Let's get moving. Stay close, Celeste."
Harry cast a Mage lighe before they set off down the only visible path, a narrow trail winding between the grotesquely twisted Aspen trees. The ground beneath their feet was soft and spongy, covered in a carpet of dead leaves.
As they walked, Harry’s anxiety increased. Every rustle of leaves, every creak of a branch, set his nerves on edge. It didn’t help that he didn’t have access to his mini-map. Navigating through the dungeon was going to be a nightmare. After becoming so reliant on it in the last dungeon, he felt blind without it.
"Harry," Celeste whispered suddenly, "look there!"
He followed her gaze to a nearby tree. At first, he saw nothing unusual, just another pale trunk in the endless sea of Aspens. But then he noticed it—a faint, sickly green glow pulsing beneath the bark.
"Is that...?" he began.
"One of the corrupted nodes, I think," Celeste finished.
Harry nodded, approaching the tree cautiously. As he got closer, he could feel the wrongness emanating from it.
"How do you reckon we cleanse it?" he asked, reaching out a hand tentatively.
Before Celeste could answer, a blood-curdling screech split the air. Harry whirled around, knife at the ready, as a small figure burst from the underbrush.
It was vaguely humanoid, but twisted and wrong in a way that made Harry's stomach churn. Its skin was pale and bark-like, riddled with pulsing green veins. Where its face should have been, there was only a mass of writhing branches, a single baleful eye glowing at the centre. Although it only reached his waist in height, the thing was so unnerving that he took a step back instinctevely.
Aspen Sapling Horror - Corrupted Tree Species - Level 5
The Aspen Sapling Horror lunged at Harry, its twisted branches whipping through the air with a sickening whistle. Harry's heart hammered in his chest as he leapt back, feeling the rush of air as the creature's gnarled limbs missed him by mere inches.
"Celeste!" he called out. He ducked low, rolling to avoid another attack that splintered the ground where he'd stood moments before. "We need to slow it down!"
Celeste zipped around the Horror's misshapen head, her tiny form leaving a trail of sparkling dust. "On it!" she shouted. "Void Burst!"
The air crackled with dark energy as Celeste unleashed her spell. A concentrated burst of shadows erupted from her diminutive form, expanding rapidly to engulf the Horror. Its movements became sluggish, as if wading through treacle, the void energy clinging to its bark-like skin like a viscous oil.
Seizing the moment, Harry used Scan to look at the monster’s parameters.

"Watch out for its branches!" Harry shouted, his voice hoarse. He ducked under another swipe, feeling the rush of air ruffle his hair. The Horror's limb smashed into a nearby tree, sending splinters flying. "And it can release poisonous spores!"
Celeste darted around the Horror's head, a tiny blur of motion. Her wings hummed with exertion as she narrowly avoided its snapping jaws. "Any weaknesses?" she called out, her voice strained.
“Fire,” Harry shouted. “But we don’t have anything like that. Just use your usual magic.”
Harry's mind raced as he dodged another vicious swipe from the Aspen Sapling Horror. The creature's twisted branches whistled through the air, missing him by mere centimetres. He could feel his heart pounding, the rush of adrenaline sharpening his senses.
"Void Burst!" Celeste cried, her diminutive form glowing with power.
A concentrated burst of shadows erupted from Celeste, rapidly expanding to engulf the Horror. Its movements became sluggish, the void energy clinging to its corrupted form like viscous oil.
Harry called upon his Whirlwind Blades. Magical energy coalesced around his hands, forming into razor-sharp blades of wind.
The blades of wind sliced through the air in dizzying arcs, cutting deep into the Horror's twisted branches. Splinters of corrupted wood flew in all directions as Harry carved into the creature's bark-like hide.
The Horror, though wounded, was far from defeated. With a violent twist of its misshapen body, it plunged its roots deep into the forest floor. Harry felt the ground beneath his feet shift and writhe and knew something was coming.
"Jump!" Celeste warned.
Harry leapt just as thick, gnarled roots erupted from the earth, seeking to ensnare him. He twisted in mid-air, the roots missing him by mere centimetres. Landing awkwardly on the uneven ground, he stumbled, struggling to regain his footing.
The Horror seized the opportunity, its branches whipping towards him with lethal intent. He leapt to the side, narrowly avoiding them.
Celeste darted in. "Shadow Lance!"
The spear shot towards the Horror with unerring accuracy. The shadowy projectile pierced the creature's twisted form, eliciting another ear-splitting screech. More green ichor oozed from this new wound, weakening the Horror further. Its movements became more erratic, its attacks wilder and less coordinated.

Harry gritted his teeth, feeling his stamina depleting rapidly. Sweat beaded on his brow, and his arms ached from wielding the magical blades. He knew they couldn't keep this up much longer.
"One last push," he panted, readying his Whirlwind Blades for a final assault.
Celeste unleashed another Void Burst, temporarily blinding the Horror's baleful eye, Harry charged forward, unleashing another attack. The blades sliced through the air in a complex into the monster’s body.
With a sound like a thousand splintering branches, the Aspen Sapling Horror finally collapsed. A moment later, it disappeared into a mote of lights.

Harry sank to his knees, exhausted by the brief battle. That had been more difficult than it needed to be. Had he become so rusty between this dungeon and the previous one that he had lost his battle instincts, or was it because the monster was so unfamiliar to him?
Celeste fluttered down to perch on his shoulder. “Ugly little beastie!”
After a brief rest, Harry got to his feet. He glanced around the clearing, spotting the spoils of their hard-fought victory scattered on the ground. He bent down to collect the loot. The Corrupted Aspen Wood was a narrow white branch that pulsed a sickening green. He placed it in his inventory, deciding to examine the item later.
Harry approached the corrupted node they'd spotted earlier. The sickly green glow pulsing beneath the tree's bark seemed to intensify as he drew near, as if sensing his presence. With a sharp gesture, he launched a blade of wind at the corrupted node.
The magical energy sliced into the tree with a hiss, cutting through bark and wood alike. Green ichor oozed from the wound, but the node remained intact. Harry launched another Whirlwind Blade. With a sound like shattering glass, the corrupted node exploded, showering the area with fragments.

"Only nineteen more to go," Harry murmured.
They continued moving. The path ahead wound deeper into the corrupted forest, the twisted Aspens casting long shadows with the Mage light following them. By this point, he had maxed out the skill, which provided ample illumination for several metres in all directions.
After a minute, they reached what appeared to be a dead end. A massive Aspen tree, its trunk easily five metres in diameter, blocked their path entirely.
"This can't be right," Harry muttered, confusion evident in his voice. He circled the enormous tree, searching for a way forward, when something caught his eye. At the base of the trunk, partially hidden by gnarled roots, was a dark opening.
Harry's stomach churned as he realised what it was—a hole, leading down into the earth beneath the tree. It was just large enough for him to squeeze through if he crawled.
"You've got to be joking," he groaned.
Desperate for an alternative, Harry tried to step off the path, pushing against the dense undergrowth. An invisible force pushed back, as unyielding as a brick wall.
"Bloody hell," he swore softly, realisation dawning. "The dungeon's linear. We've no choice but to go down there."
Celeste grimaced. "Are you sure? It looks... rather unpleasant."
"I don't see another option."
Taking a deep breath to steel his nerves, Harry approached the opening. "Well, nothing for it but to press on."
With one last glance at the corrupted forest behind them, Harry got down on his hands and knees and began to crawl into the ominous tunnel.
