Same for rentals, or even borrowing a car. Of course, insurance will kick you if you don't tell them within the grace period of any changes. I don't know what that is offhand, some number of days.

CA Insurance automatically covers you when a new car is bought. You have to go add it to your policy but as long as you are "insured" on another vehicle you can drive off.
