Bird burrs. When the hooks sink in, this activates a flapping motion on the shell (with a lift power disproportionate to the size, though one burr alone probably can't lift an adult human. But it's never just one burr, is it?)

Spicy peppers are spicy to deter mammals from eating them while allowing birds to eat them and spread the seed far. What magical deterrents could plants use? Seeds that are poisonous/noxious until you travel far enough from the parent plant. Thorny berry bushes that protect the rabbit warrens in their roots but attack approaching wolves. Trees that heat or rust the metal axes of loggers. The farmers' bane: the Corn That Punches.
