Every time this conversation comes up, it reminds me of the difference me and my friend have about how we play video games. He and I love the shit talking and the highs and lows, but he cares a lot more about playing well and winning and I'm more of a "casual" gamer. At the end of the night if we've done poorly, it definitely effects him in a way it doesn't effect me. For me, I used to let the thrill of the game get to me too much and it eventually made me stop playing altogether for a while. After dealing with a bit of anxiety stuff and returning, I just can't bring myself to the same level of emotional connection to the game. I enjoy the crap out of them when I play, but I immediately switch gears when its over.
