It’s hard to make an argument against Jokic this year but I think a lot of the frustration comes more from the last two seasons. Yes Jokic was also leading many advanced stats those years, but a. Advanced stats give extra weight to passing bigs which overstates his impact, b. The nuggets record those years was not as good as it is now (and not as good as some of his MVP competition) and c. From a more subjective but still important point of view I think the majority of actual NBA players would say one of Giannis, Embiid or Lebron was the actual best player in the league, and/or that Jokic’s lack of postseason success is evidence that he is not as complete of a player as some of those mentioned

I worked on making Full Swing - amazed to hear it referenced on my favorite podcast! Thanks for recommending it, Sean!

So I get why people don’t love watching Jokic, but what does MVP mean if we aren’t awarding it to the best player on the best team just because it’s been that way for more than 2 years? Is NBA MVP the only major MVP award where people move off the best player based on boredom?

Thought Kelsey’s point about watching to see if teams change their narrative was nice to hear. A lot of why I root for certain teams (when the bulls are bad - so often) is based around that for better or worse.
