I think you are correct. My DM style has always been too nice in this regard. I can’t think of one time where I had an opponent attack one of their downed PCs. I think the lack of deaths does in fact lay with my sense of fairness. A very unreasonable consideration in the heat of combat. Thank you for your thoughts

I find character death to be rarer in 5e than in previous editions, but I have certainly experienced (and doled out) my fair share of it. Death saves are pretty lenient but I like to remind my players that damage taken while unconscious means failed death saves, and melee damage is an instant critical hit (2 failed death saves). Sometimes when facing an intelligent, strategic foe (or an unintelligent, ravenous beast) I'll have the enemy attack an unconscious PC. I think the rules allow for plenty of character death, but unlike previous editions, it's less likely to happen as a result of unlucky roles and lethality is more of a play style that the DM has the discretion to employ than anything else.

Ren I have found the really hard to die in this game. You must have been the only healer? Did you miss three separate rolls or get jacked with the natural 1 roll? One thing I know for certain is that I would OT come back as an healer. Back to subject. Nice Ideas for encounters.
