As a native English speaker who isn't American, it took me a bit as well when I was young. Though i did what you did. Listened to those very muscular dudes in the 80s and 90s cartoons and worked out what they meant from the context. ...and as i got older started REALLY enjoying those cartoons :P

Oh, you're quite welcome! Heh... I remember the first time I encountered 90s surfer lingo, or at least the version used in movies and on TV. I could tell it was probably English, but had NO idea what they were saying. I had to work off of contextual clues and tone of voice (not that I was old enough to think about it in those terms), and then compare notes with other kids who watched the same shows.
