Honestly the hypnotist/plastic surgeon thing checks out for me s they're both somewhat creepy pastimes. But the archery thing sent me properly west, such a missed origin story opportunity.

They mean Puma, they've just pronounced it differently :)

When originally aired on MST3K, it was called Operation Double 007. I'm blown away that this had the same director as The pewMAYman.

After subjecting myself to this film I realised the Perseus statue bears more weight than just being a pretty object. The statue is usually not seen head to toe in frame, but when Beta starts explaining how the weapon works Perseus is fully shown behind him. The doomsday device freezes modern life just like the gorgon can turn hellenic warriors to stone. What this means to me is that somewhere along the line there's been a lot more thought put into that statue of Perseus than there was into, for example, why Neil Connery is a plastic surgeon hypnotist archer.

I'm familiar with this film, as it was an MST3K episode under the movie's alternate title, "Operation Kid Brother." The folks at MST3K, and Rifftrax, had a particular fondness for Italian spy films, of which I consider "Danger: Diabolik" to be as equally deuterocanonical as "O.K. Connery."

What a wonderfully terrible movie. That theme song drove me nuts, the plot was insane, the editing atrocious, and the costumes were bizarre.

oh, and if anyone actually cares why italian films were shot without sound until well into the '90s the main reasons are a) it was a hell of a lot faster and cheaper, b) italian audiences were used to everything being dubbed and accepted it, and c) lots of italian films were co-productions that drew in actors from all over europe so multiple languages were being spoken on set, something that would have required dubbing anyway. Jessica Harper has an anecdote about shooting one of the scenes in Suspiria with an actor who spoke no english, so he would hold her hand below camera and squeeze it when he finished speaking each line so she knew when to come in with hers

if you're keen for more bond rip-offs starring bond actors check out the Hong Kong action comedy film Mad Mission 3: Our Man from Bond Street (a.k.a. Aces Go Places 3) which stars Jaws himself Richard Kiel as one of the villains and has a cameo from none other than Neil Fucking Connery i finally watched OK Connery today and i actually kind of liked it. it helped to realise early on that it was barely going to bother being a parody as it plays much better as a middling euro spy film with some bond actors in it. i'm also well acquainted with the depths of italian trash cinema so i can say with confidence that this is pretty middle of the road as far as quality goes
