Nah
Just relistened having incidentally gotten very into Lupin 3rd and it rules how much of a party this film/episode is

Finally signed up to listen to these, just wanted to pipe up as the archaeologist in the back of the cinema- I do indeed just randomly start spouting shit in ancient languages, most accurate representation of us as a profession.
ZombieDwarf
Appropriately enough.

Jesus. There is SO MUCH JOY in this episode! I've gotten through 6 episodes on Spotify, and y'all (understandably) are somewhat down on Bond. This is a great movie and was looking forward to your view on it, and OOOOHHH boy I love how much y'all loved it. Thank you for sharing this!

This is the best anime to 3D translation I’ve ever seen -had so much fun with the movie and happy to own it, and hope it didn’t disappoint at the box office
ZanraiKid
Johnny Thunder was the absolute shit. Top tier LEGO sets.

Fun thing, Werner von Braun founded my university

yes i was going to bring that up! in terms of technical skill none of them are too interesting but i find it quite charming, in its own way. the first season was still getting its footing, so there are 3 or 4 different opening themes, many of which are very good (i don’t like the one where they just talk over the intro music though).
Azerty
That’s actually where I first heard of Lazenby! I had never seen a single Bond movie, and I was watching a compilation of funniest Lupin III moments. I didn’t have any context, just Zenigata yelling “GEORGE LAZENBY?? GEORGE LAZENBY?!?”
Clark Terrill
lmao i started listening to this podcast and every time i heard them mention his name i thought of zenigata yelling "George Lazenby? GEORGE LAZENBY!?"
Matthew Town
Btw Lupin III has an episode where he;s in disguise as a plumber or something and starts talking to Pops about James Bond. He accuses him of being a George Lazenby fan and gets kicked out of the room. I believe its the Melon Cop episode which is perfect for your formula.

Because I am not up on anime, I thought the gang were watching the Miyazaki 1979 version, The Castle of Cagliostro. Damn. Seriously, though, they should do The Castle of Cagliostro.
Teaflax
Not in French, it isn't.

That's how it's pronounced
witch'sFISTS
I know it's not directly related to Bond, but all the mentions of Indiana Jones make me want the crew to do eps on those movies
Teaflax
Sorry, but...why does everyone keep saying "Lupon"?
Kill James Bond!

If you need another thing for a special ep, there’s a musical on YouTube called “Spies Are Forever” that absolutely takes the piss out of James Bond. I feel like y’all would enjoy

I subbed for this ep. I absolutely love lupin III

Am I the only one who hears hints of H Jon Benjamin in Rileys (from tf) voice
Lord Travis Lance the 3rd Matheson esq
Ah, LEGO Adventures and the extensibility Australian character “Johnny Thunder”
Philip Seidl
I would looove to hear your take on Archer as James Bond spoof/similarly timeless/time-confusing show!
Blakey
Someone else mentioned castle of Cagliostro which does indeed have one of the best car chases ever, if ridiculous. The reason ai'm commenting though is that there isn't only the one lupin theme - the theme for the first season is also kind of amazing, if less musical - give it a listen, it's aggressively its own thing.

The description of the visuals reminds me a bit of the Tintin animated movie. Also a very good one, and with the same realistic weapons/vehicles/looks, but cartoon consequences. Also, that same European adventure heist movie vibe.

It's fun sometimes just to pop some corn and enjoy a good goofy movie! On the subject of Bond-adjacent material, would y'all consider doing a podcast on the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Our Man Bashir"? The entire 45 minute runtime was so explicitly a James Bond send up (in the holodeck, natch) that the Flemming estate actually sued Paramount to get them to stop from making any further episodes.
ZaitsevFred
You should review Evangelion, it's extremely James Bond-adjacent in a number of very important ways which I will not be going into
billie
how did you watch it in english in the uk?
Hannah Oberhardt
If you want more Lupin You all might want to review Lupin III Castle Cagliostro. It is the film debut of Miyazaki and has Stephen Spielberg's favorite car chase in any movie.

So is this Lupin 13 or Lupin 31?
