Episode 14.5: Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore
🕑 Added 2021-08-25 04:55:43 +0000 UTCIt technically has Roger Moore in it so it still counts. Also, we develop a new rule for non-Bond franchises.

As a catgirl I feel like I should be like, a bit offended :( :( :(
Jon, it hurts
honestly very strange listening to this as someone who watched this as a kid, realizing how fucked up it is to positively present torture in a scene in a kids movie and the real life politics that resulted in that.

James Marsters is one of my favorite VAs. He does the audiobooks for the Dresden Files series and he's fantastic. There is also a flubbed take in one, where he realized he read a line wrong, and then says Fuck before doing it again.

The mention of 24 has me wishing for Kill Jack Bauer.
Holy shit holy shit holy shit, I checked out the "let's get this party started" cover the moment you mentioned it, it's insane. It's so good. Incredible. I can't stop listening to it. How did cats and dogs 2 get this intro

I know I should leave the overanalyzing of children's movies to the professionals. But still, I can't help but notice the stark difference between the protagonist/viewpoint character from the original Cats and Dogs and its sequel. Lou was presented as a child on the cusp of adulthood, who's flaw (that ends up being their strength) is a naïve faith in the goodness of the world and the importance of doing what's right even when it isn't what's smart. Whereas, from y'alls telling, Diggs is a somewhat grizzled adult who's flaw (that ends up being their strength) is being an impulsive sadist. Yeesh. What a difference a decade makes.

I have been OBSESSED with the Shirley Bassey cover for YEARS, and I had no idea it was in this movie, so this was moment was such a treat for me, specifically!
Kill James Bond Highlights
I just realized Abi confused James Marsden and James Marsters to be the same guy. That's great and I'll be doing that in the future just as a bit.

I was going to look up the Shirley Bassey cover of “Get the Party Started”, but it’s a genius move to place it at the end. That covers FUCKS.
I saw THIS in theatres, by choice in secondary school...

I relisten to this episode every week or so, and EVERY TIME Abi's "party trick" stuns me jfc good job

Hey...hey Abi, I just—I just want to TALK
Brian Danger Hicks
That's more something for the sister podcast, Kill Doctor Who

Oh THAT's how my friends feel when I do that; jfc Abi
I needed a TW for Abi’s “party trick”

Out for a walk while listening and Jesus Christ Abi's party trick threw me. Completely stunlocked me for about a minute.

I remember hating the movie when I watched it as a kid because cats were my favorite animal and they were always the bad ones in movies. (Because often dogs or mice were the heroes so it was the easy solution... I guess). BUT I thoroughly enjoy listening to you taking this apart lmao.

I saw the comments about Abi doing some kind of surprise voice but nothing could have prepared me for that. Still catching my breath, jesus christ. Kill James Bond? More like Kill Your Audience, amiright?

What??????????????
Another great contender for the sequel only rule is baby geniuses 2, a movie where John Voigt faces off against a baby who has been a baby since the 1970s

Yo, there’s a fantastic bond style musical—on YouTube for free!—called “Spies Are Forever” and it’s fucking hilarious and stupid in the best ways. Y’all should ABSOLUTELY check it out!

kill james boned
On the topic of kids films featuring Bond actors, you should look into Sir Billi, it is a horrifying animation featuring none other than Sean Connery and it is also his last film its just so cursed.....
What a weird thing to say

It's very funny that the theme park in this movie is literally just called "Playland" - that's a real theme park, about six blocks from the house I grew up in, and where that part of the movie was shot. My old brother was an extra and is visible in the background of at least one scene.

If the dog was so into torture, the writers should have named him Jack Barker or something. Also, Abi's low voice made me instantly think that would be a fucking awesome voice for a Bond villain. Having this podcast on a CV to be a Bond villain couldn't hurt your chances. All she needs is the backless, sleeveless dress and an asymmetrical caplet.

Holy shit! I thought there was a secret guest who was silent the whole time!
Puchin
if i remember correctly, one of the other movie's plot (i think the one with jeff goldbulm) was a cat attemping to make all humans allergic to dogs so theyd get rid of them like kitty's plan
Mo Haworth
Oh my god Abi I literally jumped a foot

I knew Abi's party trick was coming and it still totally floored me, holy hell!
Nolan Thomas Denman
Sounds like I'm with the consensus: party trick damn near killed me, end theme a certified banger. <3

Sooooooooooooooooooooopooooooooooooooooooooo tangential.
You Bet Your Bippy, I'm Now A Policy Wonk!
So... definitely more emotions than I was expecting to feel based on the film under discussion today. From horror at hearing a sentient being pleading not to be tortured, to utter delight at Shirley Bassey's cover... and then some emotion I really can't name when Abi did her spot-on impression of some YouTuber.... What a ride!

Abi's sudden voice change startled the shit out of me and had me in laughing hysterics for like a minute.
Christine Pizan
second installments only.... bourne supremacy needed
If you’re only doing the second instalment of franchises does that mean we could get an episode on st trinians 2: the legend of fritton’s gold?
Rufus Dean
Got so bewildered by the voice my first thought was 'wait is fucking pierre novellie on this episode and has just been silent the whole time!?'
Tom Moffat
Thanks to Abi’s party trick I am now dead. I hope you’re happy at being the first podcast to kill a listener
Abigail's party trick absolutely killed me. The few seconds where my brain was trying to figure out what the hell was going on felt like several minutes, and then I had to pause because I was laughing too hard to hear the episode.

I was worried that since that was the last Connery Bond that this bonus would be the last Sean Connery movie, Sir Billi, thank god you did not
Carina Freeman
They were right: the theme song kicks all kinds of butt. The party trick shocked me too. Never expected to hear that again. But what do I know? Never say never again? I’ll show myself out.
OrangeFlavouredPineapple
The Abigail voice party trick startled me so hard I threw my frappe at my computer screen.
Nukes Audios
Oh hell yes, I wanted to suggest the first one of these, but thought you might not go with it!
