Oh Christ, I saw this in the theater with two native Japanese speakers (NOT my choice of film) who were fine with English but knew no slang. So many godawful lines that I knew I was going to explain them later. “So why did that big guy have one eye?” “And what was the joke?”

Obviously the Fook Mi/Fook Yu joke is absurdly racist but I did notice something thinking about it this listen that really drives home the laziness, which is that if they'd bothered to look even slightly, Fukumi and Fukuyū ARE actual Japanese given names (Fukuyū is relatively uncommon), but their racism was so divorced from even basic curiosity about its target that they didn't even leverage a more applicable available racist joke. There's something about that which compounds the racism for me, reacting racistly to an actual thing vs reacting racistly to a wrong thing they assumed for racist reasons. Of course the problem is that I'm now doing what you lot did and coming up with less lazy versions of their lazy racist jokes.
