Kevin Bodel

I've been relistening to these episodes and I just remembered that Sly was also in 'Escape to Victory' along with My Name is My Cocaine and Pele. The team should really do that movie sometime.

-Kris-

I would have hooted and hollered if Gabrielle's mom was Mexican and dad was American, and she said "I need to go to Hope, Washington." "Why would you want to do that?"

JoeNotCharles

Ok, this comment is for a very specific audience, but I have a feeling that Devon at least might be part of that audience: one of the very few things I dislike about The One Ring, the Lord of the Rings RPG - and it's a big one - is that a supplement LITERALLY has mechanic to cure PTSD by being racist. (There's also a mechanic to cure PTSD by forging knives, but that one's fine.)

Trevor Gilmore

I would pay real, hard currency to see Toddler Terror starring Devon

Trevor Gilmore

COFFY! Aka, Jackie Brown v1

Trevor Gilmore

+1, only the most insane anti-gun people stop at 5. I currently drive a car made of my leftover guns

Alfred Lang

1:25:02 you right you right .... sooo how about a new rocky movie then ?

Brian Danger Hicks

And of course the right-wing culture war policies against gay people, trans people, and immigrants that these same people support increase risks of human trafficking but it's increased risks to people they don't care about.

Off to the Protests, I'll pick you up on the way!

Dude decided that, as he had retired to Arizona, he was gonna build 100 tunnels to practice warfare against the tunnel rats from First Blood

Ember Aegle

You know Rambo 6 is going to be a prequel showing him during the Vietnam War that will finally answer the question "where did Rambo get his iconic bandana?"

Rhiannon M

The entire bit about white girls being abducted by Mexican narcos is not just a perniciously racist narrative, it's also the current raison d'etre of QAnon and Christian Fascists. Things like Operation Underground Railroad (OUR) provide a "join us in the fight against trafficking!" rallying cry while being a conduit through which evangelical funding gets funneled to far right personalities and orgs. Melissa Gira Grant has done a lot of good reporting on this specific subject and many other ways in which a patronizing fear for "women's safety" is used by all sorts of bad-faith actors.

Mulloy

Any hip hop from Arizona was written by a guy named Kyle who lives in fountain hills

Brian Danger Hicks

I watched (the short version of) this prior to listening and I caught at the start of the credits it listed a helicopter pilot and hikers and I was very confused because I didn't remember any of that. So thanks, Abi, for accidentally watching the wrong version and solving that mystery for me.

LizSwaff

I hate the trafficking narrative that they go after rich white people who got abroad to dangerous places when in the USA, like most countries, homes less people, runaways, and illegal immigrants are targeted. It’s a real problem, but it affects a lot of people conservatives hate and don’t see as human so they only focus on the fear of white women being stolen by “others” while making life hard for the actual humans at risk. (Halfway through episode so sorry if this is addressed later). 🤬

Jordan Clementi

The Narcos, social construct or not, fucking apologized publicly for killing the wrong white people. That's how much white girl PR matters in the real world, what are you doing Stalone?

Totally Useless

Also please do Le Magnifique

Totally Useless

He will get elected president in the next one and will go fight China or something.

Katie

Spent the whole episode waiting for y'all to bring up that the trailer for this movie featured fucking Old Town Road and it never happened 😭 In all seriousness though, would you consider reviewing any Blacksploitation movies in the future? You'd get a similar "rampage of revenge" theme, but with vastly different social commentary. The one I'll throw out as a suggestion is Coffy, because I've seen it recently and some of the "gotta kill the people who hooked my family on drugs" stuff in this review reminded me of it.

Hamish Mennecke

This movie should genuinely have ended with him eating a gun. What does he have to live for? Like this series has in no way been about the indomitability of the human spirit, it makes no sense for him to ride off into the sunset!

Jason Young

I am so happy and grateful to help you three make fuck you money! Thanks for all the fantastic things you all do.

God's Eepiest Soldier

EUROSPY SZN YES YES YES YES YES

Karl Childers

god damn that would have been such a better movie

Zeroisanumber

Fun fact: There were originally not supposed to be any sequels. The first actor who was cast as Rambo's old commander was Kirk Douglas, and the movie was supposed to end with him shooting Rambo in the back as sort of a mix of final betrayal/his commander putting Rambo out of his misery. But since Stallone was such a red hot commodity at the time, the script was changed so there could be sequels. Douglas didn't want to sign on for a series because he was late in his career and wanted to just make movies that he was interested in making so they had to recast the role and the three of you had to torture yourselves for four more Rambo outings.

Zeroisanumber

First off, I'm sorry all youse had to watch this for the Pod. I would never have subjected anyone to Rambo 5.

Kobal Deux

I wish y'all would do Cliffhanger as a send-off to Stallone, because that movie is properly insane.

God's Eepiest Soldier

this is probably one of those "realized right after ending recording" situations but i wanted to say: tijuana is a coastal city and monterrey is inland; regardless, gabriela probably went to puerto peñasco, which is on the gulf of california like an hour away from the us/mx border and a very common tourist destination for arizonans who want to swim

Whisky_Delta

Am I having a stroke or didn't Rambo go to Mexico in one of the other ones?

BarFly

I remember explaining to some Scottish friends how Americans don't see Mexico as a real country with a government and hospitals and museums and instead think of it as the violent sandbox of a Robert Rodriguez film with bandits and cartels and one-street towns with an old adobe mission that has a bell that goes dongggg . . . dongggg . . . dongggg.

Ben Schwabe

5 guns? In America? Those are rookie numbers. Also for a pallette cleanser KJB should do Sex in the City II, a totally different kind of horror. After the strike, of course.

Mark Schwagner

Yup, she is my proxy for telling $ interests to get bent @ the highest level!

Justine

Glad to be of service. Long live Kill James Bond!

RIP Officer DeeDee Megadoodoo

Y'all are completely missing something here. Rambo still hasn't done the Predator 2 setting. At least a third of America views inner cities as third world nations.

Alex

I actually saw “deniable porn” at a basement show in Philly, great show! Their song “chemical samurai” really brought down the house.

Taiun Craig Joseph Allen

i just learned that there was a 65 episodes animated rambo series. when will the series end

Of Winter

I was going to say, “as a certified teen, we do in fact love the tunnels,” but I’m not even a teenager anymore. Truly, the tragedy of turning twenty.

Michael Kelly

Abigail brought it up in passing, but I'd be curious to see KJB's opinion of the Taken series at some point in the future.

Noblesse Oblahaj

Oh fuck! The AK bayonet I sent Alice got mentioned on the pod, let's fucking go

Joseph Oswald

While I quite enjoyed this episode, I don't really think that the "this is pornography" critique really holds much water. I've long viewed film in general as indistinguishable from pornography in the same way that I view social interaction as indistinguishable from sexuality. In all honesty I think that this film could be considered an example of racist and quasi-incestuous cuckold porn masquerading as an action/revenge movie. Just my two cents.

Brian Taulbee

God, I wish y’all would watch Lone Star, especially after watching this. VERY different takes on Mexico. It’d also make a great companion to Cop Land.

Witch Bitch

My condolences to Abigail for accidentally watching more Rambo

Noblesse Oblahaj

The cattle on Rambos ranch were all killed by the power of the dog

Athena Von Tharsis

Yeah, very much agree with this.

Freyr Aloysius

I obviously pay my patreon sub because I love the content but hearing Abi's intro story makes me never want to unsub fuck yeah go Abi 👏

Jack Fennell

Pausing just to say Abi's story about stringing a transphobic media conglomerate along with a really drawn-out f*ck-off is going to keep me going on a vengeful glee high for weeks. Anyway, back to listening.
