I was in driving around NZ as a tourist from aus a few years before this movie came out and we happened to drive past that army base paddock as that tank with a Maori hanging out the top was smashing along next to us for serval kilometres and I was like that's was wild and random. When I saw tanks in this movie after that I lost my mind pointed at screen and yelled "see!"

Late to those and catching up! At one point there's mention of taking a bunch of 'troubled' boys into the bush on camp being a super normal thing to do. Across the road in Australia, about once a year one our various current affairs programs will feature this very type of camp! The idea being what if we teach these boys how to survive in the wild and talk about their feelings? So apparently it is indeed normal here?

The cameo by Taika as the priest at the funeral is legitimately my favorite part of the movie. I first saw this in the depths of the beginning of the pandemic, and the absurdity of it made me laugh harder than I had for a long time. We even incorporated his “sermon” into the reading that our officiant did for our wedding in place of anything religious. He’s tricky like that, Jesus!

55:34 probably because the book its based on was published in 1986 so im guessing a lot of the ahem "acceptable stereotypes in the film probably also if not come from that time then are influenced by it regards the parliament protests i have to say i was more of the treat them like the toddlers they are being and dont you know do a nz waco and as for threats meh i mean we can all ways elect new mps if it ever does come to it

Good episode. Suggestion: The Battle for Algiers! Great movie that was made in newly independent Algeria. Amazing and incredible view inside a guerilla war and how an insurgency functions. I wish the Army would've shown this movie instead of a million power point slides. I'd be willing to talk about this more if you want a shitty Army infantryman's perspective Also good choice would be Patlabor 2, subject Alice to some Anime about Japan's post-80s malaise, the relationship between government and the JSDF, military coups, the USA's patronizing position, AND MORE! Plus GORGEOUS animation.
