The third movie doesn’t have a disc with English subtitles (yet). Kino Video in the US has the rights to all three but they haven’t put out Region A discs of any of them, which would have English subtitles if the discs existed

ADHD is fun!! I was curious why they decided to use a guillotine! I thought maybe Italy was like france and they were still chopping until surprisingly recently. But then an ADHD induced google rabbit hole it turns out Italy abolished the death penalty surprisingly early after unification and only brought it back during fascism. Even before they abolished it in the post war republic, it was only by firing squad. They did use the guillotine in the 19th century. Is it because the guillotine is over the top and they can reveal the head? Is the guillotine camp??

Honestly, Eva makes so much more sense if you think of her as a supernatural romance novel protagonist, but instead of a vampire she's dating a superthief. Also aside from this movie and the 68 movie the only Diabolik media I've consumed is the early 2000s animated series made by Saban that lasted 20ish episodes and was much more sanitised.

It's mostly that they talk real fast and the translation AI 1) is not trained well and 2) does not maintain context. So within a short dialogue character one will refer to character two as he, she and they in quick succession

For the translated pronouns thing, in Italian you use "Lei" as a formal second-person pronoun but it's also the third-person feminine pronoun. Similarly, you can use "Loro" (they) over "voi" (you all) when addressing multiple people formally but it's less common.

I dont know if they ever made a proper movie adaptatation but there are some like hour long 60s-70s TV adaptations of the original Arsène Lupin novels, which kind of remind me of this vibes wise (gentleman thief, beautiful woman, disguises, things of that nature) could be fun for robbery season
