There should be a heist movie where literally everyone in the bank is in on the heist. Incredibly impractical, but that would be a really cool twist. Maybe it's some kind of proletarian action, where all of them have been screwed over by the bank and are able to pose as regular clients with a realistic reason to be there that day.

Righteous Lazarus (Four Days Dead)

DEVON KJB 21ST CENTURY SCHIZOID MAN REFERENCE???? 90TH MINUTE KING CRIMSON???????

Raymond Price

1:04:00 See Donavan Labella from the Portland, OR protests; dude survived, but his skull was fractured and he's been left with brain damage.

JoeNotCharles

After you pointed out that the "colour commentary" scene shows how Denzel's character is complicit in the police racism by not calling it out harder, I think it's appropriate that Plummer's character is complicit with the Nazis and not just a straightforward Nazi.

Tas

it involves a mink glove also

Ester Daniel Ytterbrink

it is smarmy enough to save $5.

Her Fierceness

Please tell me that someone said the $140,000 handjob is the hand job that kills you instantly

Bear

Was very tickled when you shouted out the actor using Bear as a mononym, because I also do that. Was nice to hear

OneHappyChipmunk

I have actually been to the bank they shot this movie in, it’s a cafe now but it kept the bank teller area and some of the bank decor

They're called privacy settings, 007. Yes, I've been paying $7 a month since the beginning and named myself after the twitch stream because I'm a hater. I really appreciate the podcast and 99.99% of what November brings to it. She's very funny and equally insightful on every podcast she's on. I just get tired. I am close to people who are still suffering from long COVID, and know people for whom it's a big deal if they get it. So it bothers me every time someone is dismissive of the small group of people who still have to care about it.

deathbysamurai

->Member of 0 creators< Yes you seem like a totally legitimate account and not at all an obvious troll lmao

a traditional scrench

Lose the COVID jokes. It's just mean-spirited at this point. You are punching down at immunosuppresed people. Congrats. I don't care if you don't wear a mask, but I'd appreciate not having salt rubbed in the wound. It felt like RFK popped in for a cameo.

Nyktione

Don't remember if I actually commented this on the Duke of Burgundy episode or just wanted to, but Bound was like the first lesbian "erotica" I interacted with (I was like 11, so that's really the only part that interested me). Only later did I realise that its sensuality didn't appeal to me in a straight guy way.

Nyktione

Yeah he's a tory and pro brexit

Sylvie

Oh no, the only human in A Muppet Christmas Carol has terrible politics? :(

Sylvie

I will once again remind anyone reading of the existence of Bound, a movie about lesbians doing a robbery directed by the Wachowski Sisters. If that’s not this podcast’s ideal movie then I don’t know what is

Nyktione

As I am listening to this I realised that KJB will also have to watch "Going in Style" of which I forgot the name (it isn't that good) and looked it up on Michael Caine's filmography on wikipedia, just to be informed about his horrendous politics

Arthropod_Queen

inside man? no thanks, i'm the bottom

BarFly

Maybe it's the hair but I feel like Willem Dafoe is spits William Sadler in this one.

BarFly

Devil in a Blue Dress mentioned! Looking forward very much to Noir Season

Andrew Dunn

Bi-weekly reminder (once every seven days) that there is a movie called "The Maiden Heist" in which Christopher Walken, Morgan Freeman, and William H Macy are art museum guards that each plan to steal their favorite piece before the museum closes

Caleb A

Because you used it as the image, I now need the moffat series covered. It's mercifully short for a miniseries, and supringly manages not to be the most head-up-his-own-ass of Moffat's work (because Dracula and Sherlock 3 surpass it) while still being incredibly stupid

Michael Tonus

The $140,000 hand job had better involve the mink glove.

CAE

First ever nothing ever happens bank robbers

Carley They/Themsen

🎶Ambers to the left of me, Tiffanys to the right, here I am, suuuuuuucking down Piña Colada's🎶

Damien Tonkin

I'm the lucky listener who's name got called out this week. You're right Damien is not a cop's name. It's better than an omen reference I guess.

-Kris-

You know damn well what happens in You Only Live Twice: he goes entirely Japanese

Brian Taulbee

Willem Dafoe is famously a big dick in everything (because he’s hung). And, as ever, I politely request that you do How to Steal a Million.

lousullivan.bf

I didn’t even interpret that woman’s line about her girlfriend as a gay thing, I just assumed it was meant in the way straight women used to (and still sometimes do) refer to their friends as their “girlfriends”.

weronika mamuna

you know what would rule as a bonus? First Reformed. Paul Schrader + religion, a winning combo

Josh Anderson

It is six girls named Amber and Tiffany because in 2006, you could walk into any strip club in America and find three of each

Robert Connor

LOVING the pod at the minute, hope you get around to doing Ambulance this season!

Polly

thank you abby for the dunk on scottish labour specifically, fuck those traitorous britnats 5ever

Chad Countiss

You guys should watch Trading Places. Most of it isn't about a robbery, but it does happen on a train and features a lot of very clumsy commentary on American racism.

Patrick Lopez

PROFESSOR CHIMP!

Sammi

Just realised that even after adjusting and NOT thinking about Owen Wilson, I was actually imagining Gerard Butler the whole time instead. I do think they look very similar, but I have actually seen this film.

Josephine

The inside men were the friends we made along the way

Robert Jacobsen

this film has deep spiritual meaning to my family because every couple years we watch it together and then spend the rest of the evening saying shit like 'the robbers were the real inside men all along. the cops were only ever outside men'

Its Devon Babeyyy

Don't be mean

James Rule

World's Slowest Criminal action.

mortran

It's no big sweat! I resubbed about a week ago so perhaps the list needs a little time to update.

Andrew Dunn

Realizing, two hours after finishing this episode, that Inside Man doesn't even have a double meaning.

Its Devon Babeyyy

Someone said this last week too! I'm just reading from the list Patreon provides me and I think people keep getting left off

Andrew Dunn

There's also a 2011 movie called "The Ledge" where a guy (Charlie Hunnam?) is forced to stand on a ledge for personal non-heist reasons by a religious zealot Patrick Wilson

Erin Taylor

Also you have to get Milo on for layer cake!!!

Erin Taylor

Oh hey, it's that film that keeps coming up in my YouTube shorts for some reason

Jacob King

There’s a 2012 heist movie called Man on a Ledge which is the perfect synthesis of Inside Man and Phone Booth. It’s a lot of fun. The Brookmyre novel is The Sacred Art of Stealing.

Caleb O'Brien

If you want to watch the stupid man’s version of this movie, check out Chaos with Jason Statham & Ryan Phillipe.

Princess Gwynevere

Truly a flawless system :|

Andrew Dunn

He once tweeted: OPPRESSION TEST: Can you drive to McDonalds not in hijab and get biggest Big Mac value meal? If yes: Not oppressed

Wolfman Jack

For heist season, I assume we'll be seeing Logan Lucky. Director of Ocean's 11 and starring Daniel Craig. It was basically gift-wrapped for you. And if we are looking for a completely smarmy, satisfied with itself terrible heist film, that is just way too happy to tell you about all the heist movies that it saw? You're gonna have to watch Swordfish. Young Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and John Travolta. It'll make you want to get your d*ck s*cked.

Wolfman Jack

That Simpsons joke of Lisa, looking at the glass case, but it's just, "The JonTron from TRON".

Strike3

Couple things I though of. 1) see Bamboozled for Spike Lee's complicated views on his work. 2) that thing about the TV Cop names reminds me of Alan Wake 1 where the FBI Agent hounding Alan just refers to him by a number of Writter Names. And when he finally gets to the most Hack refrence they could have chosen, he's killed

Evie K

For $140K they'd better be using a mink glove!

Skoloton

If they do a blues brothers episode there's probably going to be a 10 minute tangent about lack of proper safety in his films and how constantly getting rewarded for breaking rules leads to twilight zone incidents

Princess Gwynevere

I know who Jontron is, but can someone explain what the burger thing is about?

Andrew Dunn

It's got Nazis getting their ass whooped and more legendary music cameos than I can shake a stick at. And Carrie Fisher using weapons

Andrew Dunn

I am very sure that the kid is playing the 2005 video game "50 Cent: Bulletproof" because the kids mentions the protagonist being 50 Cent and that he learned the lesson of "get rich or die trying" and then asks the robbers if that is not what they are also trying to do. And then the robber says he wants to talk to the kid's dad, and then my own white racist dad, watching from the couch, gave an approving harrumph.

JDane

Does Indiana Jones count as a heist film?

mortran

Loved the ep tho, going to watch this later

mortran

Didn't get name mention in the "credits". 😭

Megan zietkiewicz

Need to do some bonus episodes of spike lee films for Abby. Black Klansman is a favorite of mine.

Dylan Wintersteen

Please do Blues brothers. It's plays a lot like a heist movie and it has a ton of proto-culture war shit in it. Yeah fuck Dan Aykroyd, but it's got John Lee hooker and fucking Cab Calloway!

Ladyknightthebrave

I got unreasonably excited when for a second I thought you were continuing your Al Pacino kick with the insider because I forgot how to read 😅

Antichrist Against Fascism

Or, and brace yourself, that's a joke.

Sammi

I have an issue where every time I hear the name Clive Owen, my brain just inserts Owen Wilson instead. So this is going to be an interesting listen.

Clef (they-them)

My deepest sympathies to any nurses named Peggy who hear the first minute

Mulloy

This movie blew my mind when I was young.

Bran Mac Muffin

I'm glad the opening credits got called out, because Chaiyya Chaiyya is an absolute belter

SunRaTheThird

You used the wrong picture, thats the mofta series. Unless its automatic.

Bones

in college i took a Music of Bollywood class outside my major simply because i loved the Chaiyya Chaiyya remix in the opening of this movie so much (best decision i made in that damn school)
