S4E17: The Bank Job
🕑 Added 2025-06-26 12:10:38 +0000 UTCThis week on Kill James Bond: A wrong righted. As much as we wanted it to be the case, the Transporter series featured ZERO HEISTS. So today, November and Devon meet in a shady basement to give Jason Statham his Due.
Based in broad strokes on a true-ish story, The Bank Job is the story of the 1971 Baker Street Robbery, where several- presumably jammy- bastards tunnelled into the safety deposit boxes of the Baker Street branch of Lloyds' Bank.

FREE PALESTINE
Hey, Devon here. In our home, we talk a lot about how insane everything feels, and agonise constantly over what can be done to best help the Palestinians trapped in Gaza facing the full brunt of genocidal violence. My partner Rebecca has put together a list of four fundraisers you can contribute to- all of them are at work on the ground doing what they can.
-Palestinian Communist Youth Union, which is doing a food and water effort, and is part of the official communist party of Palestine

-Water is Life, a water distribution project in North Gaza affiliated with an Indigenous American organization and the Freedom Flotilla

-Vegetable Distribution Fund, which secured and delivers fresh veg, affiliated with Freedom Flotilla also

-Thamra, which distributes herb and veg seedlings, repairs and maintains water infrastructure, and distributes food made with replanted veg patches

I'm learning a lot about British history. Why is it so weird and filled with so much bizarre sex shit?

Ineloquent Reverie
Genuinely feel that the automatic, unquestioned presumption that this film wipes it’s hands clean of cynicism around the British government by the credits (by showing a pedophile letting some crooks off the hook for covering up a sex scandal) kind of demonstrates my main problem with this podcast, for as much as I do like it: Everything the hosts can take on bad faith, they WILL. If they can interpret any given scene in a problematizing manner, that is how it will be interpreted, to the active detriment of any deeper analysis.

I damn near crashed my car laughing at the Lord Mountbatten segment

I think November is correct the Copenhagen penis shortening is a reference to GRS, Christine Jorgensen (who she has mentioned a few times) had an orchiectomy and penectomy in Copenhagen in 1951 and 1952, which would have 20 years earlier, but I believe it was an epicentre where Europeans travelled for gender affirming surgery for a while. (Incidentally Lili Elbe “the Danish Girl” had all her surgeries in Weimar Germany in the 1930s)
James Rule
Wasn't done by the protagonist.

Some excellent hog in 28 years later for Devon. Myself and several others in the theater clapped and pumped our fists when it came up

I was really confused initially because I mixed up in my head The Bank Job and The Italian Job (2003) both staring Jason Statham
Anarcho Slowpoke
Heist movie recommendation: le cercle rouge (1970) Due to how time works, it has no Statham unfortunately.
